Good Evening BCFTOA Family. In partnership with Island, Health, the host City Parksville, and your Executive we have made the tough decision to change the Annual Conference to a Virtual Platform for 2021. I think I can speak for everyone that it is certainly not our first choice but the health and safety or our communities continues to be our top priority. This starts with you and your families at home and at the firehalls across the Province. The challenge of providing a g...ood quality on-line event is one that myself and the rest of the executive take on with great enthusiasm. It will still have that TO feel to it once we roll out more details. The one item I can share is the dates for this year’s events and they are the same as we had planned prior. May 15 through the 20th we will gather virtually to network, share ideas, successes, and areas to improve. Maybe have a beverage or two? We are already mindful of your commitments to your families at home and to your firefighters so the schedule will reflect that. It will be dramatically different than anything you are accustomed in order to accomplish that Please stay tuned to the FB page and to your zone reps for more information and if you have any questions please email [email protected] Thank you for being a part of this tremendous group, Warmest Regards, Brian Ulle 1st Vice President British Columbia Fire Training Officers Association 604 340-5213

We at the BCFTOA also want to wish Mike all the best in his new adventure. Mike, a big supporter of the Association took on the challenge of hosting our annual conference in 2019 and did an incredible job. Mike has been representing Zone 4 as a zone rep for some time. Our paths will continue to cross I’m sure!
Maple Ridge Fire has an Assistant Chief - Training/Safety position open and the department is actively seeking qualified applicants. Closes: November 22, 2020 https://www.civicinfo.bc.ca/careers?jobid=58551
Greetings BCFTOA family, been a tough stretch. From the executive we hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy. Remember to always look after whose important to you mainly your family at home then the fire department. So hopefully this brings a smile. If any young TO's out there who don't know what movie this is from look it up. So good.
Gary is a dear friend to me and likely you've crossed paths with him as an instructor for the JIBC and for our Department. On behalf of the association I wish him the best in his retirement (think I can draw him out to do a little training here and there lol) Retirement of Captain Gary Proznick After 17 years educating our community about fire safety, and responding to emergency calls with the Members of Fire Hall 7 Otter, Captain Gary Proznick is retiring and looking forw...ard to the time he will now have to spend with his wife Jay, exploring and camping in B.C.'s wilderness. Gary began his time with the Township of Langley Fire Department in January 2003 as a Paid-on-Call Member of Hall 7 Otter, and retired from the Hall in 2013 as a Lieutenant and a Honourary Member. After a 23-year teaching career Gary took on the full-time role as the Departments Public Fire & Life Safety Educator in 2008. In 2018, the Fire Prevention Officers' Association of B.C. named Gary the Public Educator of the Year for Outstanding Achievement and Dedication in Public Fire and Life Safety Education. Over the course of his career Gary says he particularly enjoyed arriving at a school with the Fire Safety House in tow, and seeing how excited the kids were! For every valuable fire safety lesson/advice you provide," he says, you will potentially be saving someone's life." Gary says retirement will see him spending more time relaxing at his cabin, fishing the lakes of the Cariboo during the summer months and hunting in the mountains during the autumn. Gary's last working day will be October 30, 2020.
