Today our Public Health Officer, announced further restrictions regarding the sale of liquor on New Year's Eve. The following amendments are now included: All on-premise and liquor retail must end by 8pm on December 31st. All on-premise liquor consumption must end by 9pm, effective until 9am, on January 1, 2021. Premises that do not include full meal service must close no later than 9pm on December 31.... Food service providers may remain open beyond 9pm for food service only. This order applies to any establishment that sells or serves alcohol, which includes hotels, bars, restaurants, pubs, liquor stores and grocery stores. We share your frustrations and disappointment that these restrictions were announced so last minute, negatively impacting an industry that has been incredibly compliant with stringent restrictions and measures over the course of this past year.

BCHA is committed to ensuring our industry recovers, and one key success factor is how a continuous cost reduction approach is embedded in a property. In British Columbia, for an average food business, the costs of wasted food are worth 7% of annual revenues. Unlike other cost reduction approaches, the solutions are easy, affordable and scalable. BCHA and Rethink2gether will be hosting a webinar to share insights on how food waste prevention can help BCHA members cut on rising food costs, slash food waste and stand out from the crowd.
