Hello Everyone We are really sorry that we could not host Woodstoke this year due to Covid 19. We will bounce back next summer on Saturday 4th September 2021 and Woodstoke will be bigger and better. The Riverside Forest Walk is 13 Hectares of walking trails which now includes The Landing zone. The central section of the blowdown area has been replanted with nearly 3000, 1st and 2nd year seedlings. If you and your family are looking for something to do this weekend why no...t visit us and walk the forest. Remember if you meet a young tree ensure its free of debris and not overpowered by any seasonal plants. I will be mowing The Landing on Saturday morning which is a lovely place to have a picnic or fly a kite if the wind is up. We presently have no toilets and please take your waste and rubbish with you. Lets try our best to socially distance and enjoy the forest. Thanks very much to the Revelstoke Resort Municipality Initiative for making The Landing happen. Thank you Glenn from the BC Interior Forestry Museum See more

25/100ths: A Quarter Century in the B.C. Forest Service 1955-1980 is a memoir by G. L. Benwell describing his early life and work in the B.C. Forest Service. This is a pleasant read due to the fast paced writing and natural stylistic choices. Each chapter possesses paragraphs which feel fit for a campfire storytelling night. With tales involving hanging out of airplanes with no harness to being chased by Grizzly bears, the book shows the grit and adventure that was found arou...nd every corner of the forest service. It is particular fun for residents of the Interior as there are many references to places around the area such as the infamous Trout Lake City whose current population rests at a booming 40 residents. These stories are enhanced by Benwell’s thorough knowledge of the area and of the industry. This knowledge is apparent when George vocalizes his firm views on the current forestry industry. You can pick up the book at the BC Interior Forestry Museum or at Grizzly Bookstore located in downtown Revelstoke. Photo of Lookout man Art Shobe (left) and Benwell (right).

Many people have visited the museum over the past couple of days to check out the great view of the spillway! The dam has been releasing water over the spillway since midnight on July 14th and is still releasing approximately 600 cubic meters per second of water. That is just over one Olympic sized swimming pool every four seconds! This is the largest volume spill release since high water conditions in 2012 where the dam released approximately 850 cubic meters per second.

The BC Interior Forestry Museum is presently closed and as we are a municipal park not accessible to the public. Our staff and volunteers are working on site and it is important that unnecessary contact with the public is avoided. Please stay out of the museum grounds. We are working on a plan for reopening the Forestry Museum in some form hopefully in June with a approval from the city and the province. Until then the Riverside Forest Walk is open for walking so please enjoy. Stay safe Glenn Westrup Director
