Help BC's Cultural Sector Quantify the Impact of COVID-19 - New Sector Impact Survey As a follow-up to GVPTA - Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance COVID-19 Arts and Culture Impact Report released in June, we are once again asking artists, arts workers, and arts and culture organizations across the province to help us understand where you are at today. WHY SHOULD I FILL OUT THE SURVEY?... We recognize that you may be experiencing survey fatigue but we do hope you take the time to complete the survey as we know that survey data can make a big difference to inform and guide recovery decisions. The report will be shared with federal, provincial, and municipal governments, other arts funders, and stakeholders within the community. WHAT KIND OF QUESTIONS WILL BE ASKED? Some of what we ask you includes your feedback on current government supports, obstacles you've faced in the last three months, changes to working hours and operations, and your reflections on the shift to digital programming. HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE? The survey will take approximately 8-12 minutes depending on how many questions you choose to answer, and how in-depth you choose to respond. Most questions are optional so you can skip any you don't want to answer. If you have questions about the survey, contact Executive Director Kenji Maeda at [email protected]. Survey Deadline: November 13, 2020 Complete the Survey: gvpta.ca/programs/sector-impact-sur

Today, September 30 is #OrangeShirtDayan annual day to recognize and raise awareness about the residential school system in Canada by wearing orange, joining t...ogether in the spirit of reconciliation, and honouring the experiences of Indigenous Peoples. Between the late 1800s and 1996, more than 150,000 First Nations, Métis and Inuit children attended Indian residential schools. In honour of Orange Shirt Day we’re sharing Kent Monkman’s work, The Scream, a painting that depicts the scale and horror of the residential school systemshedding light on this dark chapter of Canadian history that lasted for over one hundred years. My paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Monkman, was a survivor of the Brandon residential school in Manitoba. I grew up not knowing much about her experiences, and wasn't encouraged to ask. Only on her deathbed was she able to speak openly about her own suffering and the abuse she endured in the schools. She was one of thirteen children born to Caroline Everett, only three of whom survived to adulthood The main theme of this exhibition, however, is resilience. My goal is to counter the one-sided version of art history that exalts European "discovery" of this continent and to celebrate and commemorate the indomitable spirit of Indigenous people. ~Kent Monkman Shame and Prejudice: A Story of Resilience by Kent Monkman is now on view at MOA until January 3, 2021. https://bit.ly/342qZ4U The Scream, by Kent Monkman (@kentmonkman ). 2017.
