"UPGRADE KITS" vs "REBUILD (BIY) KITS" This post is not intended as marketing for our products, but rather a bit of information to consider and research carefully when choosing what type of performance transmission kit to purchase. We get a lot of inquiries about the variety of kits available to choose from and have found that some people are not aware of the differences in the terminologies used by the websites/companies that sell these products.... In our opinion an UPGRADE KIT (with or without a torque converter) is exactly as described - a clutch pack upgrade kit that will work well when you want to add performance components for increased HP and durability when the following pre-existing conditions are applicable: *the transmission is stock; and/or *has low(er) mileage; and/or *has not slipped or is not having any other transmission operation related issues; and/or *has not had any prior engine or transmission tuning NOTE: These kits basically are designed to upgrade the friction elements only and do not address the hydraulic system. A FULL REBUILD KIT (with or without a torque converter) is better suited to a vehicle in which: *the stock transmission has failed; and/or *has had modifications done that have since caused the transmission to slip, or "LIMP"; and/or *has performance engine tuning increasing HP ratings over OEM specs A full rebuild kit should include the components of an Upgrade Kit plus, at the least, a complete Overhaul Kit.
