We are pleased to announce that the fee for pharmacists' administration of publicly funded vaccines in B.C. has increased from $10 to $12.10. This increase applies to all publicly funded vaccines and is effective September 1, 2020. The BCPhA has been in discussions with PharmaCare (Pharmaceutical, Laboratory and Blood Services Division) since the COVID-19 outbreak about its impact on community pharmacists. Since March, we have worked with the Ministry of Health and the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia to make changes in practice requirements to protect patients and pharmacists, and we've worked to help offset the negative economic impacts the pandemic has had on pharmacies. #health #covid19 #pharmacists #immunizations

Recognizing that many of our member pharmacies will be arranging for patients to make appointments for their flu shots this year, the BC Pharmacy Association has made available an online booking tool for pharmacies. This affordable tool allows 24-7 booking by patients through their computer, tablet or smartphone, and is a convenient option for both patients and pharmacy teams this season. BCPhA member and YYoung pharmacy manager Lisa Le spoke with Global BC yesterday to talk about how pharmacists plan to tackle the coming flu season, while protecting pharmacy staff and patients from COVID-19. This year, many pharmacies are asking their patients to call ahead. Some pharmacies might ask you to make an appointment, while others will permit walk-ins. Thank you for covering this important topic! #flu2020

Thank you MLA Mitzi Dean for taking the time to stop by your community pharmacy, Rexall Drugstore at 1511 Admirals Rd, Victoria, to learn about how pharmacists are gearing up for this flu season to ensure the public can get their flu shots in a safe and convenient manner. Pharmacists like pharmacy manager Gary Tse and his team have been providing injection services for vaccinations throughout the peak of the COVID pandemic, and are quickly getting prepared to serve British Columbians through our first post-COVID flu season.

The BCPhA held its second virtual Town Hall on Wednesday night inviting members to share their challenges and victories in the COVID-19 outbreak. Members talked about challenges so far and addressed the real needs for the upcoming flu season. B.C.’s community pharmacists have played -- and will continue to play-- a crucial role in immunizing patients for flu and a wide range of other publicly funded vaccines. Hosted by Bill Tieleman, government relations consultant and journalist, the hour-long telephone town hall connected members to BCPhA current President Keith Shaw and CEO Geraldine Vance to answer questions and hear feedback from members. The production team stayed socially distant and masked. #covid #pharmacy #bcpoli #pharmacists
