This cutie was found wandering near the airport in Prince George and was brought into the BC SPCA North Cariboo District Branch. Staff checked him over for any identification in hopes of reuniting him with his guardians. Luckily, this fella had a tattoo in his ear and his humans were called right away. The family almost didn’t believe the news this was their cat Noir, who had been missing for FIVE years! Noir was in pretty good condition considering, we suspect someone may... have been taking care of him. We may never know what adventures Noir got up to in those five years, we are just so happy he is now safe at home. This wonderful story highlights the importance of permanent identification for pets. Protect your pet with the BC Pet Registry for only $12! Internationally traceable and available 24/7 to reunite owners with lost pets: www.bcpetregistry.ca/register See more

If you’re one of the lucky folks with a furry supervisor by your side, you’ve likely experienced an interrupted zoom call, paws walking across your keyboard or a four-legged assistant trying to shred your notebook. We would love to see your best work from home snaps in the comments below!

It may be spring break, but we continue to celebrate the incredible, dedicated teachers throughout our province, now and all year long! The BC SPCA helps bring animal welfare learning to teachers and classrooms through presentations, lessons and activities, and our annual teacher guide, Meow!. Are you looking for a couple of cute little mice?? Pepper and Cashew would love to go home with you! Cashew and Pepper are only about 1 month old, so they are very tiny! They are still getting used to being handled but they are both very sweet, adventurous little mice who love to run, burrow and cuddle. We think Pepper must have been an Olympic athlete in a past life because wow! This mouse can jump! She will very quickly leap out of your hands and take off if you aren'...t careful, so these two should go to a home with previous mouse experience, or to an older child/adult who will be very, very careful when handling Pepper. If these two cuties seem like the perfect mice for you, email us at [email protected]!

Jaspurr: (The Gentleman) Hermes: (the shy, goofy lion) Mabel: (the shy, playful little girl) All of them together: These 3 senior kitties keep asking us when they are going to get adopted! We love these 3 beauties so much here at the shelter, and we will be sad when we no longer get to see them every day, but we will also be so excited for them when they find their perfect furever family!... Jaspurr, Hermes and Mabel all love each other so much, so they need to go to the same home together, they can't imagine life without each other! Please share this post around, these cuties need to find a very special home who is willing to adopt all three, work on their weight loss journey and a home with no small children (or very respectful, quiet children) We know these kitties will find their perfect home! Please email [email protected] for more information

Although there is no statistically significant difference in damage between tenants with pets and tenants without pets, finding pet-friendly housing in B.C. is challenging to say the least. This was the case for Breanna and her 15-month-old puppy. Eventually, she found a landlord who understands the special connection between animals and guardians. For more on Breanna’s story, visit: https://spca.bc.ca/news/the-case-for-pet-friendly-housing/

It’s harmless to throw an apple core out the window, right? It’s compostable, it should be fine? Not quite. Scraps of food littered on the side of the road can draw out rodents, which in turn draws out birds hunting them for food. To prevent injuries to wild animals and help keep roads safe this fall, take a look at some steps drivers can take to avoid collisions with wildlife: https://spca.bc.ca/news/keep-owls-safe/

In life, Forever Guardian Ursula Thomas was a gifted musician, poet, and animal lover. Before she passed, she thought about future generations of animals when she left a generous gift in her will to the BC SPCA’s emergency services. Though she did not know a pandemic was on the horizon, her love and forethought ensured animals all across B.C. would continue to enjoy comfort, care and safety, even during these difficult times. Thank you so much, Ursula! For more information about Forever Guardians: www.foreverguardian.ca

A huge thank you to the animal lovers who came together last night to make our special virtual #Offleashed an amazing night! We couldn’t gather together in person like usual but that couldn’t stop us. Hundreds of supporters joined from their homes and gave generously to make a big difference for animals. And even without our famous Cuddle Lounge we still had adorable puppies, kittens and a bunny bringing the cute! Thank you to everyone, especially our amazing sponsors who make this night possible and ensure that every dollar raised during Offleashed goes directly to the animals.
