Edit: ADOPTED! Katie has a long history of living as a community cat where she slept on peoples porches and ate from bowls they would kindly leave out for her. Sadly some of the community where Katie lived didn't welcome her and so she was brought to the SPCA to find a home. We've learned that Katie was once a farm cat who was an outstanding momma cat to several litters of kittens. She apparently would take them to a big tree and one by one have them climb while she sat under...neath giving encouragement and supervising their every move. Katie was spayed years ago and so her momma role came to an end. When the farm was sold Katie was rehomed and subsequently abandoned, then rehomed once more as a mouser before finding the community she came to know as home. Katie has been treated kindly by members of the community, she enjoys a scratch under the chin and chats if you talk to her. She's going to need a patient home that will give her time to adjust to another new life. She'd probably love to have another cat or two to look after. Katies not going to enjoy small children, she likely will be afraid of dogs. She's not the cat for someone looking for lots of cuddles and affection at this point. Katie would enjoy being allowed outside eventually but we know it will take her a while to be comfortable enough in her new surroundings for this to happen. If you are that special someone who can identify with Katie and provide her with a safe and understanding home then we would love for you to meet her. ***In order to protect the health of our staff, volunteers and members of the public during the COVID-19 pandemic, we've made changes to our adoption process. 1. Thank you for continuing to help animals find loving new homes! This enables us to keep caring for new animals at risk, even with limited staffing.

Did you know kittens can get pregnant as early as five months old, producing more kittens and continuing the cycle. The result? Too many cats and not enough homes for them all. Tell someone you know about the importance and benefits of spaying and neutering! Learn more ways to help cats in your community: www.spayneuter.ca

Did You Know? Folks of all ages who wish to "pay it forward" can support animal welfare needs across the province by donating their birthday money! Pictured here is Gordon (with wife and SPCA volunteer Nel) who turned 90 years young recently! Wow, looking good Gordon Several of Gordon's friends each donated $90 in his honour to the Shuswap branch. The BC SPCA in Salmon Arm is welcoming applications from low-income families in the Shuswap region for low-cost spay neuter surgeries, thanks to $10,000 of funding received from the Shuswap Community Foundation. We are thrilled to be able to offer this program to the Shuswap region, says Victoria Olynik, BC SPCA Shuswap Branch manager. In 2018, we were able to spay and neuter more than 300 cats in Salmon Arm through a grant we had received and we received many inquiries fr...om surrounding areas for a need for similar programming. The generous support received from the Foundation comes from the Margaret Haney Fund. This endowment was left to specifically assist the welfare and humane treatment of animals. The program covers up to 50 per cent of surgery costs. Applicants are requested to provide proof of income to ensure the program reaches those most in need. In a time of growing need and financial difficulties for many families, this program will assist families for whom the costs of a spay or neuter procedure is a barrier but who want what is best for their cat, says Olynik. In addition cats will be microchipped and cat guardians will receive a one-year registration to the BC Pet Registry. The sole goal of the BC Pet Registry is to reunite lost pets with their people. Each year, thousands of lost or stray animals are taken into care by BC SPCA shelters, animal control agencies, veterinarians and rescue groups. Without permanent identification, it is nearly impossible to identify lost animals and reunite them with their families. Interested cat owners can fill in an application online here: https://spca.bc.ca//ca/free-spay-neuter-available-shuswap/

Meet Winnie, Winnie unfortunately had to come to us when her previous owners could not find pet friendly housing. We are told she has previously lived with other cats and a small dog, so with the right introductions, Winnie may suit a home with an animal companion. Winnie is a super sweet and sociable girl who would prefer a home where she could be indoors only. If this green eyed beauty sounds like the cat for you please contact the Shuswap SPCA or fill out an online applica...tion. ***In order to protect the health of our staff, volunteers and members of the public during the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve made changes to our adoption process. 1. Meet Clover. Clover, named after his striking green eyes, came to us as a stray, so we unfortunately don’t know his story. He is a sensitive boy looking for a quiet home that will make him feel comfortable. It’s clear Clover has received love at some point in his life, but he is feeling quite sad and scared about all these new changes. Clover needs a patient home that will provide him with places he can feel safe in, and of course a lot of love. Right now Clover is in fos...ter care, but if you’re interested in meeting him please contact the staff at the Shuswap SPCA or fill out an online application. ***In order to protect the health of our staff, volunteers and members of the public during the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve made changes to our adoption process. 1. We would like to thank these kind hearted kids, Jeevan and Naveed, for bringing along this HUGE tote full of food and goodies for our animals. This is the 6th year in a row we have received what they like to call "Random Acts of Christmas Kindness" This year Naveed even fundraised cash to donate by drawing portraits! We can't thank you enough - our animals appreciate it!
