We are still taking orders for SYC Apparel! We are getting close to our goal but we still need more to hit our minimum order count. If you haven't ordered one yet, we would encourage you to do so before the end of September. All proceeds after costs will be donated towards relief efforts in Lebanon. If cost is an issue for you, please contact us and we can find a way to make it work in partnership with some generous donors. In the mean time, see you soon!... You can order the shirts at http://apparel.sycbc.ca

We are now taking orders for SYC t-shirts and hoodies! For this year, we have the special opportunity to have both kinds of apparel for you to have. And on top of that, as part of our way to engage with the world, all proceeds minus cost will be donated directly to the Canadian Global Response to assist with relief efforts in Beirut, Lebanon. You may order at normal SYC T-shirt for $20 or a hoodie for $30. (See below). In order to secure these rates from the printing company,... we must reach our target of 40 individual orders. Deadline for orders end on September 30. For more details as to how this works or to place an order, please visit http://apparel.sycbc.ca

SYC 2020 is happening Aug 24-28! However, due to the policies implemented by the BC government we will not be running our usual overnight camp at Gardom Lake. Instead we will be creating a camp-like experience through online activities and possibly in-person small group meet ups!* To help make this year's camp a reality, please register for the camp ASAP so we know if there's an appetite for the event. *In-person meetings will only occur if it is in compliance with the government and church’s safety policies Sign up now at (http://register.sycbc.ca), browse our newsletter (http://newsletter.sycbc.ca), or visit www.sycbc.ca for more details.

Last year, we learned about the need to consider it pure joy in times of trial. Who would have thought 2020 would come slamming into us the way it did. As we continue to find meaning in our experiences and new changes, let us not forget what we learned together during SYC 2019. Stephanie Morales Beaulieu has graciously provide us her take on how to keep this spirit of joy going in times like these.

When my kids are hurt, they instinctively cover the wounded area. When I try to see and treat the injury, I’m often met with resistance and crying. It takes a m...easure of trust for them to believe there is healing past the pain of feeling. When we are hurt, we have the same instinct to cover up our pain. We don’t like the fact that healing takes time. Instant relief is much preferred. Open wounds feel vulnerable, so we erect walls when something or someone gets too close. Our walls go up with the intent to keep our wounds from hurting more. So, when things get too personal, we pull back. If it’s too real, we retreat. And when something stirs in us, we avoid it until the discomfort settles. The soil of our hearts can be hardened by protective walls. The problem with walls is they aren’t selective. As long as we don’t feel, we assume we’re fine. But as our hearts harden, so does our ability to feel on both sides of the emotional spectrum. In her book, From Faking It to Finding Grace, my friend Connie writes: We don’t know how to interpret pain we process it to mean that perhaps if God would allow this, He must not be trustworthy. If the rampant presence of evil, pain and suffering in this life doesn’t cause you to stop believing in a loving God, it may tempt you to stop trusting Him. After all, how can we trust a God who allows us to experience deep pain?
