Memorandum of Understanding advances Tlowitsis Nation, Canada and British Columbia to final stage of treaty negotiations By signing this Memorandum of Understanding, the Parties affirm a shared vision of reconciliation and the recognition of Tlowitsis inherent rights and title, through treaty. There is no greater expression of sharing sovereignty than through a constitutionally protected treaty, and today the Parties are closer to their shared commitment and ongoing nation-to-nation relationship, says Chief Commissioner Celeste Haldane. https://www.globenewswire.com//Memorandum-of-Understanding
Congratulations to the Tsawwassen First Nation youth! The Tsawwassen treaty came into effect on April 3, 2009, it was the first treaty achieved through the BC treaty negotiations process. The Tsawwassen First Nation, Canada and BC have been implementing their new relationship for nearly twelve years. This centre will be a place of learning, nurturing and preparing our youth for becoming our next generation of leadership. This centre will offer both indoor and outdoor activit...ies, a computer lab, games room, an art room, TV room, a community kitchen and large dining area all spaces that the youth can enjoy together and call their own. This is truly a momentous day for our youth and members. My hands go up to each and every one who made this happen. Chief Ken Baird. https://www.delta-optimist.com//tsawwassen-first-nation-op

Understanding Our Treaties is a new initiative that engages Indigenous emerging leaders to learn about treaties through an interactive learning experience. Treaties negotiated through the BC treaty process are tripartite agreements which constitutionally entrench reconciliation between First Nations, Canada and British Columbia. Treaty making cannot be done in isolation everyone has a role in reconciliation.
