British Columbia Weightlifting Association (BCWA) 23.10.2020

Our annual general meeting is happening virtually (ZOOM) at 2 PM tomorrow (June 27th) As a member driven organization, this is your opportunity to influence the future of the organization. With 4 director positions up for election, this is also your opportunity to get involved and make a difference. It does take a small commitment, but as volunteers, this is the only way we can continuously raise the bar. Agenda, financials, minutes and additional details can be found on the ...web: https://www.bcweightlifting.ca//bcwa-annual-general-meeting

To our valued members... It has been a challenging few months for everyone, as the COVID pandemic has created changes in our lives and caused individuals, clubs, and businesses to adapt and persevere. Many of you managed the situations extremely well, showing the same character and determination I see from each of you on the competition platform. I am optimistic that as British Columbia relaxes restrictions, everyone can safely return to their training and goals. In recent we...eks, the challenges for many have been compounded with economic and social unrest. Incidents in the US have motivated individuals and organizations to take a stance against social injustice. As the president of the BC Weightlifting Association, I wish to let you know that our organization stands united against the unequal treatment of others. Our values as an organization promote equal opportunity, safety, and treatment for not only our members, but the weightlifting community as a whole. In this regard, no one individual out ranks another. We do not isolate race, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, education, or ability. We address all issues and stand up for all who experience discrimination. This is expected of our leadership (BCWA Board), our clubs, our coaches, our members, and our volunteers. At the very least, I hope you can each take the time to reflect on the matter. Perhaps even break your own silence without fear or shame. When I see weightlifters at the gym (or at competitions) - I see unity, positivity, collaboration, and support. Let us use this strength within our network to positively impact the rest of our communities. Raf Korkowski President - BCWA

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 developments, BCWA has cancelled the UBC Lift-Off this weekend. We have also regretfully withdrawn our participation in the 2020 Western Canadian Championships. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide information regarding future events. Apologies to all the athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers affected by the changes.... Doing our part in minimizing the impact of the virus on our communities, as well as the health and safety of our membership remains our top priority. Thank you for your understanding!
