On Wednesday evening then Vice- President Samia Suluhu had the task of announcing to Tanzanians that President John Magufuli had died and she has now taken his place as the country's head of state. On Friday March 19, 2021 it was announced that then Vice-President Suluhu was sworn in to be the president of Tanzania. This makes President Suluhu the first female president of Tanzania.
