Bangladesh High Commission, Ottawa 22.11.2020

The High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Canada H.E. Mr.Mizanur Rahman participated in a virtual discussion meeting on the occasion of the National Mourning Day on 15th August 2020 organized by Bangabandhu Parishad, Canada. Hon’ble Foreign Minister of Bangladesh H.E. Dr. A.K.Abdul Momen also took part in the said discussion meeting where he urged the community to work in unity for the building of Sonar Bangla as dreamt by the Father of the Nation.

The High Commissioner mentioned that under the dynamic leadership of the daughter of the Father of the Nation Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been implementing the mission and vision of the Father of the Nation to build a poverty and hunger-free Sonar Bangla.

Student Permit Processing by IRCC: Global Affairs Canada (GAC) has updated a document with information relevant for international students during the COVID-19 pandemic that may help the international students. The document is available on GAC’s EduCanada website: https://www.educanada.ca//update-covid-19-mise-a-jour.aspx was recently updated to highlight the new temporary measures around student permit processing by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), which can be found under the Immigration status and related travel section.

Hon’ble Ministry of Agriculture of Bangladesh H.E. Dr. Muhammad Abdur Razzaque had a virtual meeting with the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food of Canada on 07 July 2020. Foreign Secretary Mr. Masud Bin Momen, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture Md. Nasiruzzaman, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Canada H.E. Mizanur Rahman, and high Officials of both sides participated there. The Ministers stressed the importance and scopes of furthering the bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and Canada on the various issues including food security, trade & investment, research collaboration, employment generation, etc.

‘Ek Desh’ the online crowdfunding platform in Bangladesh The Government of Bangladesh has launched the first online crowdfunding platform in Bangladesh. This platform aims to bring together individual donors and social and non-profit organizations together with the government for the relief funds operated by the Government as well as the other charitable organizations. Under the umbrella of ICT Division of the Government, the Prime Minister’s Emergency Relief Fund for COVID-1...9 pandemic, Islamic Foundation, BRAC, Bidyanondo Foundation, Center for Zakat Management, CRP and Sajeda Foundations are included in the said platform. Funds intended for the purpose of food assistance, medical assistance, cash assistance, etc. can be donated to the organization of choice using this platform both from home and abroad. Bangladesh High Commission, Ottawa 29.05.2020

Following the guidance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bangladesh High Commission in Ottawa, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Toronto, arranged a special flight from Canada to evacuate the Bangladeshi citizens and students stranded due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The flight left Toronto Pearson International Airport at the early hours on 21 May 2020 carrying 195 passengers and is scheduled to reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhak...a on 22 May 2020, morning. H.E. the Bangladesh High Commissioner to Canada Mr. Mizanur Rahman saw the passengers off at the Toronto Airport. Officials of this High Commission and the Consulate General facilitated airport formalities. The High Commissioner informed the travelers that the special flight was arranged following the Bangladesh Government’s initiatives to evacuate stranded Bangladeshi nationals in different countries. The passengers expressed their gratitude for arranging this special flight. They were pleased to be able to return to Bangladesh at this time, enabling them to enjoy the holy festival of Eid-ul-Fitr with their families.
