The days of being able to take a course in the classroom appear to be coming to an end. The Washington State Pilot Escort Vehicle Operator certification course will no longer be offered as a classroom course. It is going on line like many others. Instructors have been advised that once their certification is expired they will no longer be able to teach the course.... Instead, the course will become (already is available) an on-line instructor led video conference course. Based on rh many comments that have been post d on various sites, it would appear that many people are upset about this move. I personally can't say that I am a fan of on-line courses. Being able to assist someone one-on-one can be rewarding for the instructor and certainly is for the student. I will be carrying on teaching this course until the end of December. After that, I will no longer be doing the Washington course. I am still exploring options and the possibilities of teaching for another State (somehow doubtful) or building my own that could be (again doubtful) approved by the Stat of Washington. The Western Provinces are seriously looking at coming out with their own program and this is where I will more than likely be concentrating my efforts. I will be holding a Washington State Pilot Escort Vehicle Operator certification course in Edmonton on Saturday March 28th. If you ar interested in attending or know of anyone interested, please contact Dan at [email protected] or call (306) 737-2911.

Here is an update on Certification Reciprocal agreements. Washington appear to no longer be approved for Arizona and Florida. However, the Colorado course is accepted in Arizona and Florida but it is not accepted in Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina or Georgia.... So it now looks that if you want to hit every State except New York, you will have to certify through Washington and Colorado. There is nothing like messing with people. Keep in mind that some states require you to take the National Safety Council Defensive Driving Program course which is an 8 hour course. This can be done in the web. Texas requires you to be Texas Flagging Certified. For more information go to: www.tcole.texas.gov//fi/FormsAppsPubs/Escort%20Flagger.pdf
