Over the last two weeks I have been listening, as I have been thinking about the accusations about Greg Glassman founder/owner of CrossFit, and the company itself. It frustrates me to be grouped into such accusations knowing that we do not stand for racism, misogyny, or any hatred towards LGBTQ. That said, man...y large corporations have had many of these accusations and have dealt with them swiftly by those in power and saved the company. I’m generally one to wait and see when the smoke clears and will make a clear and concise statement about CrossFit the brand, HQ and their representatives. When dealing with something of this nature directly after an event like COVID 19 many of us small affiliates worry about how we will be found if we drop CrossFit. We believe in the methodology as many of us have healthier lives due to it, that said we will be continuing with the same methodology and dropping the name CrossFit. As I would hope it’s very obvious our community will always welcome anyone with open arms regardless of race, age, or sexual identity. I would say there are as many as 90% that are affiliated in the same boat, that still believe in what CrossFit is and why we do it, not what one person’s actions have done to such a massive organization. What everyone needs to understand is CrossFit affiliates don’t stand for any of it. CrossFit HQ will need time to shift on their own and get rid of the bad. Beach City CrossFit will not stay affiliated and will be starting our rebranding as Beach City Athletics. We will stand free from what people label, we are our own. I hope you can understand that some things need time and these are very tough decisions to make. I love who we are and what we stand for at BCCF. Hopefully this will give you a little insight as to how I feel and Beach City’s stance on the issue. Please be patient as we move through the rough seas to calmer water.
