Since my last post six days ago, Covid awareness has ramped up across Toronto. I'm getting inquiries from outside our neighborhood. Here's a reply I wrote this morning: As of last Monday, we have accelerated cleaning in the Laundromat to continuous throughout the day on customer touch points, daily washing of all floors with disinfectant and lysol wipes for customers at Monk's counter. Staff have latex gloves to handle incoming laundry and hand sanitizer.... Soap and water are recommended to kill Covid19, and all our laundry wash is done with soap. We have a sick pay policy for employees, all of whom are vulnerable grandmothers: cough and fever? Stay home. You'll be paid in full for the hours you did not work, and as well I will pay the hours of the staff person who did work. I'm continuing to weigh shutting the shop completely. For some customers, we are a convenience. For some, elderly and shut ins, we are a necessity. It's not about revenues, not about pay. It's about community service, and what's best.
