Gave this bathroom a refresher course!
Sprucing up another kitchen at the Beacon Manor.
Unfortunately this week we were thrown into renovation mode unexpectedly. One of our tenants noticed the smell of mould in their bathroom, particularly around the tub. Fortunately the tenants were heading away on a vacation so we were able to do what was necessary without causing a disruption. We noticed that a lot of the grout had started to crack and was thin in a lot of places. Sure enough when we started to take off the tiles the full extent of the mould damage was evident. So we did what needed to be done to make it right. Using proper materials and techniques their bathroom is water tight and even better looking than before!!
Today we had to pull apart the lock on the front door of the Beacon Manor. This old locking mechanism is the original from when the building was built in 1911. A piece of metal had broken apart and had to be welded back together.

The lobby of the Beacon Manor. A lot of thought and planning went into keeping the authentic details of the original house when it was renovated in 1985.

The original house was built in 1913 by William J. Hanna based off the designs of Samuel Maclure, a locally famous architect of the time. He designed many other famous buildings in Victoria including Government House and Hatley Castle to name a few. This residence had many occupants over many years but ultimately came into the Ct familys possession in 1962. It underwent a renovation and was attached to the Beacon Manor in 1985.
In 1911 this Craftsman Arts and Crafts Bungalow style home was built based off the architectural designs of Jud Yoho, a Seattle based architect who sold his designs during this time. Its first owners were Mr. and Mrs. Bownass, but had many other residants over the course of many decades. In the early 1980s it was purchased by the Ct family, who renovated it into an apartment complex in 1985. Since then it has remained an apartment building owned and operated by the Ct family.
