It's been a long time! As a small business owner, I like to think that I am ready to handle almost anything. I can switch gears on a dime, work miracles and create last minute requests with superhuman speed and sometimes even pull miracles out of a hat. I can multitask a zillion tasks between balancing family life and business and keep 100 balls up in the air. I can not only hit a curveball out of the park but usually can see it coming from 10 miles away. What I was NOT ...prepared to handle was a pandemic. With all the unknowns and concerns about the best way to protect my family, myself, my business and my customers. With the everchanging news, guidelines, rules...it became overwhelming to navigate the rollercoaster of Covid-19. Many small businesses struggled with the opening/closing of their business, the ethics of providing safe drop off and pickups. The uncertainty of how the virus could be spread and transference on materials. Now that the deadline for commiting to online or inschool learning has passed, I feel as though I am in a position to commit to new orders and some more certain timelines. I have been working a little behind the scenes but for the most part I have been home with my son. Busy seven year olds and woodworking shops are not always an ideal combination. So with that being said, I am back to accepting orders and I will be accepting a limited number of custom projects until our footing with Covid-19 is a little more certain and we see if we can outsmart a second wave once school resumes. Thank you all for your continued support, understanding during this unprecedented time and your continued interest in Beanstalks. Looks like this is the new reality for all pickups and deliveries...not a glamorous wrapping job but safe! It has been a while since I checked in and I apologize. So much uncertainty going on and then I was sick in the middle of it all...not the time to get sick! Now that I know school is out for summer, I feel like I can get a better grip on how to go forward. I am still completing orders for some patient customers and arranging to get them in their hands. You have al...l been wonderful! I am going to start taking orders again next week once I have everyone taken care of. I will be doing a limited number of Father's Day items and of course, growth charts. Since my husband is still working, my schedule will be balanced between work and spending time with my 7 year old. Many would think that a 7 year old boy would be in his glory hanging out in a wood shop all day but the novelty quickly wears off and little is accomplished once that happens so I am down to a few days of dedicated time each week. Hope everyone is doing okay and that some of you have even found some positives in spending some more downtime than usual with your families. I have been waiting to see what my policy would be for going ahead. I have a supply of wood for all orders that are in house which means I won't have to go out and get those supplies. I will not be doing pickups at my shop and will do porch pickups but wanted to try to get an idea of virus survival time on surfaces before I offere...d this as an option. I have been told that while they are still researching it, up to 5 days is the recommended timeline for wood. I will be coming into my shop on a very reduced schedule but due to the school cancellation and other restrictions, I would would prefer to limit trips out of the house as much as possible. I have dates for some items that are being gifted and will be following up but otherwise completing orders as the schedule will allow considering all of the above. If you need your item sooner rather than later, please send me a pm and we can sort out the plan. Machinery can be fantastic. But it can also suck when something goes astray. I am not good when I am unable to solve an issue and have a hard time sitting back and waiting. Thanks for everyone's patience while my machine has been on the fritz. I know many have been waiting for updates on their items or responses on projects but hoping to have some resolution today or at least an idea of timelines. So I don't have time to participate in meet the maker this March but here is a little peek into a small part of my day. Sometimes equipment glitches or miscommunicates. No different than humans on a bad day. Thankfully tech support is close at hand this time and not all the way out in California. I am back up and my x axis on my router is running smoothly and obediently again (unlike it was in this video..that loud clunking noise is NOT normal) :)

This morning everyone dropped their kiddos off at school in pink shirts or rifled frantically through their closets for their own pink shirt as a show of support. How many of us took the time to sit with our children or reflect ourselves on what they day actually means? And on any other day of the year do you ensure that you watch your words and actions and make sure you aren't being a bully? I have seen grown women dressed to the nines in pink and shouting their support out for anti bullying...yet simultaneously tearing down others around them without a second thought. Children live what they learn. 364 days of ugly can't be eradicated by one beautiful day of pink. Let's make sure we practice what we preach

WORKING HARD ON GETTING THROUGH MESSAGES! The struggle is real. On today's edition of Bring your child to work day.... For the record.. he was cold so I fashioned a scarf sweater..he is not tied to the chair! All this after getting halfway to my workshop and realizing my laptop was at home and thanks to the new on ramps in courtice ...I think I drove 20 km extra just to get turned around. Alas..I am doing my best to juggle PA days, strike days and everything else to get to all your orders and messages! As you can see my sidekick is more into playing minecraft rather than helping.

And here it is...the reality of wood and the fact that it has a will of it's own. No matter how much energy and care that you put into choosing your wood..there are no guarantees that it will conform. Of course restackig wood after a too long day can also lead to sloppiness.
