We had a great visit with Delightful Travellers in late August. They shot a nice video of our gravity fed wine making process. It follows the Maud Lewis house segment, which is also worth the watch!
A frosty fall morning for our last day of the 2020 season. After today we will open by appointment for the remainder of October. Thanks to our staff and all of our guests who supported us in 2020! - Darren and Su
As harvest continued we called for backup and mom and dad made an appearance and helped us pick. Pinot Gris (2nd photo) did quite well this summer in the hot & dry conditions. Lots of action in the cellar now!
A lot has happened since our last post. We had a heavy frost last week and then wind that blew off a lot of the foliage that had been damaged by the frost. So we have harvested all but two varieties over the last couple of days. Sharing some photos, including the first grapes we have harvested from vines that we planted in 2018 (see photo captions). Many thanks to the great crew that helped us pick! Too many to list everyone here, but a special shout out to Anita who fed us all on Friday.
Ripe grapes are not only a welcome site for the grower but also an assortment of birds and four legged pests that want them. So, the netting has been on most varieties for a couple of weeks now to protect them. Today, our Riesling (generally the last to ripen) was basking in the sun just before we put the netting up on it as well. Now, we do our best to protect the grapes from predators until we are ready to harvest!
Grapes, figs, and peaches ripening up nicely!
