I often get asked how to properly do butt joints on cement board siding. This is done by installing a piece of flashing (non corrosive) behind the joint to drain water onto the piece below. Caulking is not recommended at butt joints, nor is non factory edges. ... This leaves a crisp, clean and properly draining seam.
