For day 8 take the family portrait to the next level and create a snowmen family. Here are some tips to make your snowman standout from the crowd. -Pick a place that is shaded to increase the lifespan of your snowman. -The best type of snow comes when the temperature is right around the freezing mark. If your snow is too dry, spray a fine mist of water over it with a hose. Or you can use a spray bottle or a watering can with a perforated spout. -Start by forming a snowball wi...th your hands. Keep adding more snow to it until it’s too big to hold. Then place it on the ground and roll it in a direction opposite of you. Change directions as you roll it, so as to make the ball as spherical as possible. -Flatten the top of the bottom ball and the bottom of the middle ball before stacking to improve stability. Repeat for each segment. -Lift every snowball with your legs and not your back. -For extra stability, place a stick down the center where the sections meet. -Once assembled, pack snow in between the three balls to help keep the whole thing intact. -Experiment with size. If you have a lot of snow, you may be able to make a giant snowman. But don’t forget about how awesome and whimsical tiny snowmen can be. -Use kitchen tools like serving spoons and butter knives to sculpt out finer details. -Old plants are a good source for hair. -Collect old clothes that are too worn to donate in a special snowman clothes box. -Add those little red & white peppermints for cheeks. The pink will leak out into the snow and give your snowman rosy cheeks. -Don’t have coal for the eyes? Rocks work just as well or use reflectors or solar-powered LEDs to make your guy stand out at night. -A snowman isn’t a snowman until you give it a name. Be creative! -Take a picture and share it in the comments See more

With snow officially here to stay (at least until spring), we want to help keep you informed. Did you know that you can find resources, information, announcements, and Bylaw information that fully outline the city's and resident's responsibilities during winter? We also have some great tips to help keep you and others safe this winter season. Remember to fully clear ice and snow off your car. This helps you see the road properly and keeps other motorists safe. Remember t...o clear snow greater than two centimetres from sidewalks situated on your property within 48 hours of it snowing. You are also not allowed to place any snow, ice, dirt, or debris on any roadways. Remember to remove and clear any obstructions from the sidewalk situated on your property. Look out for snow clearing route signs and fire hydrants when parking on the street. Remember, parking in these areas when you shouldn't often present safety and operational issues for everyone. Remember, if there is a fire hydrant on your property, you are responsible to maintain a clearance of 1.5 metres (roughly five feet) around the hydrant. For more information and full details please visit beaumont.ab.ca/191.

Day 8 of the 12 Days of Winter Fun comes from Bibliotheque de Beaumont Library. The Library invites you to join us on a StoryWalk! A StoryWalk places a children’s story along a popular walking path in the community. We invite you to pop by the library to explore Jan Brett’s The Gingerbread Baby. The story begins at the southeast corner of the Library and loops around the building and along the treed path by the parking lot. Just follow the signs and enjoy the book! The... last storyboard has copies of a recipe for participants to take home and bake. Make sure to pay special attention to the borders of the story to see if there are any hints as to what will happen next. Take a picture of your walk and tag us on Facebook or Instagram for a chance to win a copy of The Gingerbread Baby. Use the hashtag #beaumontlibrarystorywalk when you share your pictures. The StoryWalk is a fully outdoor activity. We ask all participants to follow all public health guidelines and enjoy the StoryWalk with members of your immediate household or your designated close contacts. The StoryWalk Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg Hubbard Library.

Beaumont RCMP Detachment has some advice for Trick or Treaters this Halloween! Carry a white bag, pillowcase or a reflective bag for your candy. Dress for the weather. Cold weather or rain can be very uncomfortable! Don’t go Trick or Treating alone, go with older siblings, parents or someone within your cohort.... Let your parents know where you’re going to be at all times. Don’t visit houses that are not well lit, and never go inside a stranger’s house. Use the sidewalk whenever possible. If there’s no sidewalk, walk on the side of the road facing traffic. Don’t cross back and forth across the street. Work your way up one side of the street, and then start on the other. Don’t eat any of your treats before you get home. Once home, ask your parents to look through your treats with you to make sure everything is safe. Maintain social distancing of 2 meters and avoid touching doorbells or knocking on doors by yelling Trick or Treat! And motorists, please be extra vigilant during Halloween, as you’ll find plenty of kids excitedly moving from house to house and they may not be as attentive when walking through your neighbourhood.

Did you know that the age group of 65 years and older is growing faster than any other age group in the world?. In 2016, the number of seniors in Canada exceeded the number of children aged 0-14 years for the first time. This trend is holding true in Beaumont, where the number of seniors is growing faster than other age groups. We are developing our Age-Friendly Strategy to respond proactively to this demographic change. It will identify needs in Beaumont related to age-frie...ndly facilities and services, recommend actions that the City and its partners can take to address them, and set out a plan for implementing those actions. But we need your input to make this plan the best it can be. Please take some time and fill out our survey so we can best reflect the needs of the community. This afternoon, Alberta's Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, announced a 30-day mandatory restriction on social gatherings of more than 15 people in the Cities of Edmonton and Calgary. While this restriction does not apply to Beaumont, the province's voluntary health measures are still in place for our community and we ask that people follow them to keep one another safe and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Beaumont, Alberta 25.07.2020

A few minutes ago, the Alberta government announced that they are implementing new voluntary public health measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the Edmonton Zone and protect the health of Albertans living in the area. The Edmonton Zone has recently seen a sharp increase in cases, and taking action now limits the risk of cases growing exponentially. As Beaumont is in the Edmonton Zone, the new measures are applied to us too. Effective immediately, anyone living ...in or visiting Beaumont or the Edmonton Zone should: - Limit your social and family gatherings to no more than 15 people - Wear non-medical masks in all indoor work settings, except when alone in workspaces such as offices or cubicles where you can be safely distanced from others or an appropriate barrier is in place - Limit the number of your cohorts to no more than three (a core/household cohort, a school/work cohort, and one additional sport, social or other cohort). These measures are on top of our existing ones, which include wearing masks in all indoor public places, washing your hands, keeping a 2m distance from others and staying home if you have symptoms. Alberta Health, AHS and local municipalities will continue closely monitoring the spread across the Edmonton Zone to determine if any additional recommendations should be made. While the new measures are voluntary, we need to all continue doing our part to protect ourselves, and our friends, family and neighbours. By working together, we can reduce the spread and lift these voluntary measures as soon as possible.

Fast forward to today, and we have a new optical illusion that will more effectively signal cars to stop for pedestrians. Go check it out at 44 Street and 46 Ave! Beaumont, Alberta 28.05.2020

Setting the city’s budget is a matter of balancing many priorities, needs and viewpoints. To help us prepare the city’s operating budget for 2021, we’re asking for your input. We’ve developed a budget simulation using Balancing Act, an online tool that puts you in council’s chairs to direct spending to your priorities and set revenue levels where you think they should be. Remember, Alberta legislation requires that we balance the budget. Increasing spending in one area means ...you may have to reduce it elsewhere, or raise taxes or fees. Please take your time to complete the budget simulation and leave your thoughts at the end. This is our first time using it, and we’d like to know how we can make it better for you in the future. Try your hand at balancing the budget here: https://www.beaumont.ab.ca/679/2021-Budget If you need some extra time, you can save your work, then come back to it later.

Lapointe road and sidewalk work and the LeBlanc Canal Bridge replacement have all been completed, and several other projects are very close to completion (fingers crossed we don’t get that September snowfall we all dread so much!). Other projects, such as 50 Ave Streetscaping, are longer term and will continue into the fall and next year (budget pending). For more information on all construction projects and their statuses, please visit https://www.beaumont.ab.ca/334/Current-Projects. With students returning to school for the first time since the start of the pandemic, we would like to remind drivers to follow the 30 km/h speed limits around schools and to park responsibly when doing pick-ups and drop-offs. The 30 km/h speed limit, which is in effect daily from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm in school and playground zones, allows drivers to stop quickly, reducing the likelihood of serious injury or fatality. Let’s ensure we’re all extra alert to help keep our children safe this back to school season.
