Here you go, the link to the official CBC broadcast of the Magnan heritage house move. So glad it happened before we got all this snow! And one correction, I meant to say " ... and it took the new owner who bought the property ... " I got a little tongue tied, looking at my webcam during the interview and answering questions about the move. I remember correcting myself at least once, lol. If you look closely, you will see Roger & Alice in a couple spots, excited about the move of their former home. https://fb.watch/1E75PwNuYx/
The move was a big success!
The concrete floor for the St. Jacques heritage house was poured this morning.
Here we are at the community centre market today and tomorrow (across the avenue from Bellevue School). Heritage Society 2021 calendars and community history DVD/flash drives. Selling until they’re all gone! Our table is right at the market exit door. Happy to see YOU!

#BeaumontAB #WeAreBeaumont Good news, CBC will have coverage of the moving of the Magnan Heritage House tomorrow, Thursday November 5th, on the 6 o'clock news. Pass it on! And here is video from October 23rd, the day the house was lifted off of its foundation. It includes a quick tour of the inside of the house, just before it was put on blocks. https://youtu.be/RT5P33RBrHw
Today the preparation work for the concrete basement floor of the St. Jacques house was done.
#BeaumontAB #TBT #WeAreBeaumont #somethingpositive #housemoving On Thursday, October 29th, 2020, as the Magnan heritage house began its move to a new location, the bell at St. Vital church rang out its farewell to an old friend. Built in 1919 as a retirement home by Alfred Dubord, it was later purchased by the Magnan family. It also served as a gas station, community post office and for a number of years included a pool hall and confectionary on the east side. To save the home because of downtown development it was moved to the Beaumont & District Agricultural Society Fairgrounds where it will continue to charm visitors.
The Beaumont & District Heritage Society calendars have arrived. Our theme this year is early Beaumont area schools. They will be on sale for $10 at the Beaumont library, starting on Monday October 26th. They will also be available at Place Beausejour on Tuesday & Wednesday, or you can private message Barb Willis.
Some video of the big move. I have lots of footage to work with. It was pretty awesome to film the house starting to move just as the bell at St. Vital church began to ring to announce it was 9 a.m. Talk about perfect timing.
Waiting for moving day on October 29th. It will be moved to the nearby Beaumont & District Agricultural Society Fairgrounds. The last handful of photos are from a last minute tour inside, before it was lifted up.
Work has begun today, on moving this historic home to the Agricultural Society Fairgrounds. It is both a sad and a good news story. This is the only way we would be able to preserve it.
Yesterday the rough plumbing was inspected and approved. Next week work will begin on preparing and pouring the concrete floor.
We are happy to report that the Magnan Heritage House will be moving to a new permanent site, saving it from demolition. It will be moved to the Agricultural Society Fairgrounds this month. The location is perfect, where it will compliment the addition of the Gobeil Heritage Barn from a few years ago. http://www.beaumontheritage.com//former-post-officegas-st/
With detailed engineering drawings for work to be done inside the house now completed, for all three floors, and the necessary permit approved by the city, work at the St. Jacques house site has resumed. A new construction fence that surrounds the entire site has been installed, we now have a construction sign that identifies the project, and rough plumbing has been installed. An inspector is booked to come check the work and then we can have the concrete floor poured, the next step.
Special screening of our Beaumont Heritage DVD project will take place at the Beaumont Library in October! https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10158412075998673&id=202731518672
