As winter approaches the snow gets lower and lower on the mountains. We were blessed with a rainbow a week or two ago. The chimney/fireplace continues to grow-thanks to Jim Trana and his helper Anson. Here are a few different scenes from our camp from the last week or two. Thank you to Stephanie Schafer for your photographic eye, and sharing these pictures.

The Veteran's Transition Network has been utilizing our camp now for about three years. It is a charitable organization that specifically helps our military veterans and police who are dealing with PTSD and other mental illnesses brought on by war, policing and various other human conflict situations. We are honored to have them here. It is a way of serving those who have served us and our country. We received a very nice letter from them recently, from the last group we ho...Continue reading

As the winter sets in, progress on the new bathroom area is slowing down. But, once again we are extremely grateful for super volunteer Jim Trana and his amazing skills. He is building the fireplace/chimney that will be on the north end of the covered eating/picnic area. Can you imagine sitting around a big, beautiful fireplace with a group of family and friends (post covid with no face masks on), on a warm evening, with just an occasional mosquito singing soprano in your ear.... Off in the distance you hear a train horn announcing its arrival and then hum of the big diesel engines crescendo, then die away, as it rushes nonstop to the ports of Vancouver. The squirrels chatter. An owl hoots. The ravens share their ravensong. Perhaps a lone coyote joins in the chorus from afar. And the smell of wood smoke wafts around you, combining with the tree smells of warm fir needles and cedar boughs. Camping at Camp Hope. Here is an update on his work done thus far.

Hey Everyone!!! Pull up a chair and get ready for a brand new video. If you would like to see the New Bathroom/Covered Eating area at the camp being put up, here is a 9 minute video chronicling the many different stages of construction. It also includes picture of many of the valuable volunteers who have helped in this project. A big thank you to Jeff Klam for putting this together for us, and for the aerial footage too. ... It was on a beautiful sunny early October day when we poured the second half of the covered eating area. A couple days later, we hosted a meal of Thanksgiving with the whole Conference Office staff. We also thanked Jim and Brenda Trana for their volunteer dedication to the camp, and in particular to Jim's help on this new bathroom project. ... The guys with Jim Trana had done some landscaping around the construction area and they hung up some lights. The new building was very nicely presented.

Super Volunteer Jim Trana and the Camp Hope Maintenance Team were hard at it again this past week. With the roof on the new Bathroom/Eating Area block, it is time to get the floor prepped to pour the concrete. OCT 5 and 6 are concrete pouring days. Lots of work went into working this area to be ready to pour. Laser levelling. Putting in footings and pounding in posts so the floor can be levelled just right. You kind of have to see it happening to get the whole picture. The l...ittle Bobcat that we purchased earlier is the work horse here and we are ever so grateful to the donors who responded to our request. It was a good purchase and it has been so helpful. Shout out to Herb Larsen Jr too. He loaned us a forklift and it also has been a workhorse during this bathroom construction. There were times we had three forklifts in use.

UPDATE ON CAMP CEDAR FALLS 9/21/2020 About 90 minutes ago, the US Forest Service reported that the El Dorado’s Fire behavior has moderated. However, critically dry fuels still exist and spot fires continue to occur. The fire has met the highway on the slopes to the south of Angelus Oaks, and down the north aspect slopes to Highway 38 just across from the entrance to Camp Cedar Falls. Though the fire line is holding in many areas, fuels remain critically dry and receptive to spot fires which have jumped the highway a mile to the East of camp. Containment lines remain at risk due to hot rolling material along the Hwy 38 corridor. Many thanks for your continued prayers for the camp as well as the fire-fighters who are engaged in creating the firebreaks and assisting with evacuations as needed.

The good news is that the roof is on and the shingling has been completed. The ridge cap venting is also on as well. A BIG thank you goes out to Jim Pollock who nailed down every single shingle. THANK YOU Jim for your many trips to the camp while this was getting accomplished. In the picture, right to left, Jim, Mike and Al. This process took about 6-7 days. Thank you too to Al Heinrichs, Mike Conners and Rick Weber (pictured solo) who also helped keeping Jim supplied with sh...ingles so the nails could keep on being hammered into the roof(nail gun). Todd and Steven, kept on with bracing and other areas needed. Craig, Jorge, Cornelius, Jud, Peter, Jim T, Anson, Sven, Jim S, Tom helped recently in other phases. Jim Trana has been prominent in nearly all the phases. Don G thank you for all your technical advice and support. Let’s also remember our block layers Burk and Dave (and Jim T), now back again, putting up the firewall on the south end of the building. It was quite a flurry of activity there in a small window of time. Let’s keep the momentum going. Friends. It takes a team to get the job done. Many hands

Important Prayer Request To Our Extended Camp Hope Praying Family Our sister camp in the Southern California Conference has been evacuated and is in grave danger from fires. The following is from an email I received today. AACP(Association of Adventist Camping Professionals) Prayer Alert Update... Just received word from Bob Wong (Pastor Bob Wong is Director of Youth Ministries for the SCC)..."the fire is very close to camp." The most recent USFS Incident Information Center indicated that southwesterly winds are picking up which are encouraging the fire to burn its way down the slope towards a long stretch of Highway 38, across which is the entrance to Camp Cedar Falls. Fire breaks have been created between the fire and the town of Angelus Oaks, a few short miles from the camp, which, fortunately, seem to be holding. "Lord, continue to protect your place of ministry."

It was a very eventful/eye opening/reality checking/busy week, working on the new bathroom/covered dining area at Camp Hope. Two weeks ago the trusses went up. This just past week we got 99% of the plywood sheathing up on top for the roof, and even some under-layment and roofing material as well. This week a BIG thank you again goes to our Camp Hope Team, we are putting in some longer hours. AND once again, another BIG thank you to our amazing and generous volunteers. Jorge ...Cruz, Cornelius, Craig Smart and Jim Pollock. Thank you do Don Garret for continued technical advice. Missing in the group pictures is Al Heinrichs and Cornelius.

Our Camp Hope team is working diligently on our new building. We are few, but we work hard. Thank you to Wednesday's volunteers, Jorge Cruz, his father in law Cornelius, and to our roofer expert Jim Pollock. We have more work for volunteers. We do not have any scheduled for today, Thursday.

A very amazing and dedicated team who put the trusses up on the new bathroom block, covered eating area in B Section, even through some dampening rain showers.

Camp Hope 22.07.2020

Last week we had a busy week. We were able to put the trusses up on both sections of the new washroom block. This included the covered eating area. All went well with no mishaps or concerns. It did rain on our crew on Friday for a while. Then about 20 minutes after we were completed, and eating lunch, it started pouring outside. We were very happy we got done when we did. Still lots more to do as we prepare to put the plywood sheathing up, the beginning of the putting on of... the roof. We could use some extra help this week. If you any roofing experience that would be handy, but we can use a few labourers too. Contact me, Bill Gerber if you might be considering this. We will have another busy week. A big thank you to Peter Burman, Jim Trana, Jud Wickwire, Jimmy Schafer, Sven Tornlov, Jorge Cruz and Tom Glatz. Also a big thank you to the truck driver that brought our trusses, Jordan. And kudos to, to our camp crew working hard on this project too, Todd Schafer, Steven Hodgins, Al Heinrichs, Anson Tait and our indoor team who fed us and gave our travelling volunteers a place of rest.
