Fire Safety is everyone in your homes responsibility, from ages 1 through 99. Please share this video with the members of your family, and see if you can locate any fire hazards in your home. While you are at it how about you test your smoke/CO Alarms and practice your escape plans. The Beckwith Fire Department would love to see some videos and photos of families practicing their escape plans and testing their Smoke/CO Alarms. #beckwithfire #firesafety #testyoursmokealarms #know2waysout

MESSAGE FROM REEVE KIDD January 6th, 2021 ICE RESCUE... On the evening of January 1st, 2021, two men went through the ice on Mississippi Lake off Loon Lane. One of the 2 men managed to get out of the water at which time a call was made to 911. This followed with a response from the OPP, Lanark County Paramedics, the Beckwith Volunteer Fire Department and the neighbouring BD&E Fire Department. The drone video of the dramatic and successful rescue of the second man led by the Beckwith Fire Department can be found on the Township Facebook Page. On behalf of all of Council and the Citizens of Beckwith, I would like to thank all those involved in this rescue. I would especially like to thank the women and men of the Beckwith Fire Department for their teamwork and leadership and especially to Captain Mike Hart and Firefighter Mike McCann for their on ice rescue work. The years of weekly training sessions have paid off in this successful rescue and will continue serving the residents of Beckwith Township into the future. Thank you! Watch as Beckwith Township Fire Department, DNETV Fire, Lanark County Paramedic Service, OPP Emergency Response Team and OPP Aviation worked together to save a ...man on New Year’s Day. He had been submerged for over 45 min but found just enough strength to hang on to his friend when he saw help arrive. Remember, no ice is safe ice! See more

On Friday January 1, at approximately 8:00 PM Beckwith Township Fire Department, Drummond/North Elmsley Tay Valley Fire Rescue, Ontario Provincial Police - East Region and Lanark County Paramedic Service coordinated an ice water rescue to rescue two ice fishermen that had fallen through the ice on the Mississippi Lake. Both fishermen were rescued by firefighters with the aid of a police drone that provided a spot light over the fishermen. Both men were transported to the hos...pital by paramedics. This is a reminder that with the current temperatures in the area have not been low enough to fully freeze the water on our local ponds, lakes and rivers. The ice is not safe to be walking on in some locations. It is best to STAY OFF the ice until temperatures get colder and the ice is at a minimum thickness of 10 cm (4 inches) for walking on. This is certainly not the news we wanted to share as we approach the Winter Holidays. However, due to the provincially mandated shut-down, we are required to e...nforce the following measures: -Playing of hockey games is prohibited. -Any individuals using the outdoor rink must maintain a physical distance of at least 2 metres, excluding members of the same household. -Wearing of face masks or face coverings is strongly recommended. The outdoor rinks will be monitored to ensure the provincial regulations are being followed. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the Recreation & Culture Department (613)257-1690. We appreciate your cooperation in light of these unfortunate circumstances. We hope that these will only need to be temporary measures so that we can continue to enjoy the outdoors rinks to their full potential.
