Lynn Smith-Reeve talks about her 7 year journey from poverty to stability in a 3 min video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrhMlaL5-B0&t=1s Lynn’s story, and ...the supports she had along the way, is the basis of the Bridging Team model she co-developed. Bridges Peterborough is excited to Partner with United in Learning to offer a six-week online study course, Bridging Poverty and Privilege: Growing Life-Changing Relationships. We’re looking for folks interested in joining us on this learning journey. A great con-ed experience or a group study. Wednesdays, October 13 to November 17 from 1-3 p.m. Click here to Register: $180 / bursaries and group rates available https://www.united-in-learning.com/index.php Together we will: 1. Explore the theoretical framework of the Bridges Out of Poverty workshop, included free in this webinar series. Learn about and work with: the four causes of poverty; hidden rules of class; how efforts to help can hurt, etc. 2. Learn about the essential role of food, fun, and storytelling to this work, and practise the skills needed to grow life-changing relationships to bridge the divide of poverty and privilege: curiosity, hospitality, and dignity. 3. Find out how we put the theory into practise in Bridging Teams; how to recognize low income team members as the lead problem-solvers; an introduction to facilitating these small group experiences; the role supporting citizens in the Team - sharing their community connections and life-experience; and the essentials of Food, Fun, and Storytelling 4. Imagine ways to implement the Bridging Team model and changing the conversation around poverty in our communities. Presenters Lynn and Allan will be joined by Storytellers from past and current Bridging Teams. This youtube video captures a recent presentation by members of Bridging Teams, and Lynn, as they talk about the model and the training. It’s an hour long but well worth a listen if you’re curious. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3V5F_bikSE

We made this video to share our strategy with you on how we win a #JustRecovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. We know we can’t win the just response we desperatel...y need to tackle the converging health and climate crises without building a mass people powered movement behind it. That’s why we are helping hundreds of people organize teach-ins to distribute this strategy and get organized from now until June 7th. HOW TO TAKE ACTION: If you are ready to demand a #JustRecovery sign up to host or attend a teach-in near you here: https://350.org/jr-teachins/
