Over the last few years I’ve had the absolute privilege of working with a group of grade 7&8 students once a week, some of whom have been at Beehive since the beginning. I’ve watched them support each other in the most amazing ways, jump into every project with energy and openness, share so much of themselves, commit time for art and for each other after putting in long hours of homework and sports practices.. They have volunteered their time with our younger students, cleaned up the studio after other classes, listened to 80’s music with me, made me laugh, drunk more hot chocolate than I thought possible, and taught me so much. And this week I saw two of them stand up publicly for Black Lives Matter, and LGBTQ \ Non Binary understanding. I am so proud of all of them. The kids are all right. We are in good hands.
