We are still exploring Ontario looking for ancient trees and new seed sources. We have to thank Dan for this incredible find. This is the oldest, biggest sycamore we have come across. It took all 3 of us, linking hands, to encircle this tree. Very, very lucky to find some seed balls. Can't wait to see how they germinate!

We need to reach 60+ km south of the projected planting site and mix seed sources all the way up. Then we need to range expand to the east and west, again, mixing seed provenances. The last component is to mix local seeds at the site with everything brought forward. What gels it all together is matching plant requirements such as soil, drainage, ...and pH to the translocated trees. So what will our future forests look like? There will be a higher % of younger aged trees and an increase in early successional species. There will also be an increase in species of trees adapted to disturbances.
