When my girls were little we playground hunted. We loved to explore new places to visit and play. They REALLY loved it. Did you see these kids in the video? RU...NNING to the next "exercise", with joy! Do you hear them? Laughter. Laughter in the middle of moving and "exercising". As a coach, I sat amazed over the course of my girls early years watching them CHOOSE to move, climb, roll in the grass, dig in the sand. I watched the girls go from falling down on their bottoms standing next to a climbing wall, to ripping monkey bars and blasting around obstacles. And with very little help from Dad. The environment did all the work. Amazing. And as a dad I was awarded some of the most special (and quite frankly easy for all you tired parents of little ones always on the move:) quality time available on earth. We were filled with lots of joy, all the while their brains and bodies were being filled with priceless and powerful stimulus. And they never once were told they needed to work out:) This is where the joy of movement and fitness begins. It's both play AND functional fitness. Let your kids explore. Don't you forget to explore. Have you forgotten the sheer joy and experience of movement? Fun places, good people, feeling better when you leave than when you arrived? Excited (like kids asking dad to go to the playground 50 times in row:) to go back? It's fitness on and completely different level. And it's where fitness does so much more.
