Most of the health-conscious among us know that magnesium is needed to balance calcium, and that it can help fend off muscle spasms. But did you know that it is REQUIRED to make the #enzymes work that "stimulate every chemical reaction in the body"? That magnesium is "necessary for the synthesis of protein"? That it "produces and transports energy?" - and so much more! - thanks to Carolyn Dean's excellent book "The Miracle of Magnesium" for this info.
Remember Susan Powter? Her unfaithful husband spurred her on to lose weight and get healthy. Her method? Long speed-walks.
Heard about this surprising reversal on the BBC news this morning - must be based on a similar study to this one from 2019 . . .
Could your coffee maker be making you sick? Here's an excerpt from one part of the Infographic: "COFFEE MAKER Being dark and damp, this is a prime location for bacteria and mold to hide. Fill the machine with up to 4 cups of vinegar in the tank and let it stand for 30 minutes. Run a cycle with the vinegar, followed by two or three cycles with water until the vinegar smell diminishes."
I found this Infographic on the places in your home (primarily the kitchen) where the most germs are hiding. Let me know if your reaction was the same OMG! as mine! https://d2evkimvhatqav.cloudfront.net//where_germs_are_hid
With this heat wave, it's one time when you might WANT to get cold feet. Wrapping some ice cubes in a cloth and applying to pulse points (not just in your feet, but also neck and wrists) is a quick way to cool off!
Just watched a video by a woman who said that this product gave her miraculous results for her ugly and painful #varicoseveins. Anyone had a similar experience?
Picked up an old copy of Prevention's Best and randomly opened a page on Vitamin C. I was surprised to learn that despite a daily recommendation of just 60mg, many people aren't getting even that much. This is troubling since Vitamin C "is vital to the production of white blood cells, the foot soldiers of your immune system" the article read. And once the body is deficient in Vitamin C it takes higher doses to get it up to par. Citrus fruits, pineapple, melons, and more are great ways to get your Vitamin C . . .
How to combat that uncomfortable #bloating feeling? If it's caused by too much salty food, the best antidote is foods rich in potassium. These include bananas, avocados, and sweet potatoes. Paradoxically drinking more water will help too. Don't give up and reach for diuretics right away as these can have side effects such as dizziness and muscle cramps, according to the Mayo Clinic. Do try drinking more water, having potassium-rich foods and exercising more to help flush out excess sodium.
Are you enjoying strategy games with friends/family during this unusual time? They offer up the dual benefit of positive mental health through social connections, and brain health through exercising the mind. They're also fun!
It's important to stay hydrated in this heat wave we're having. They say the best way to get your water is to eat it. Watermelon, being one of the most water-dense fruits we have, fits the bill nicely. It also has some wonderful health benefits, according to HealthLine: "Helps You Hydrate. ... Contains Nutrients and Beneficial Plant Compounds. ... Contains Compounds That May Help Prevent Cancer. ... May Improve Heart Health. ... May Lower Inflammation and Oxidative Stress. ...... May Help Prevent Macular Degeneration. ... May Help Relieve Muscle Soreness." See more
Have you heard about the new 3SL Study? It found that #pregnantwomen who exercised had more of a compound in their milk called 3SL. This substance confers health benefits on the child later in life, apart from genetics. These are reduced instances of serious health issues such as diabetes, obesity and heart disease. We can thank researchers at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and College of Medicine for the study.
Do you love red #wine but get a reaction from drinking it, such as hives? Chances are you are allergic to the sulphites present in most red wine. The good news is that you can order sulphite-free red wine online. Another culprit could be the insect venom allergens found in newly processed wine or grape juice. In a small study, it was found that people who experienced a reaction to the newly processed wine, had no problems with aged wine.
Dr. Bob DeMaria, aka "The Drugless Doctor," recommends Apple Cider Vinegar for such common health problems as #digestive distress (burping and flatulence), Tendonitis, Bursitis, and Plantar Fasciitis. An easy way to take it is to add it to your salad dressing.
If you are a #migraine sufferer, and like to enjoy wine and cheese, there is evidence that this treat could be a contributing factor to your migraines, according to this excerpt from WebMD: "Many things can trigger a migraine, from stress at work to changes in the weather and foods like aged cheese. And for about one-third of people who have these headaches, alcohol is also a trigger.. . . Dark-colored alcohols like red wine, brandy, and whiskey may contain more of them."

Laura in the Kitchen video shows you how you can make a delicious cantaloupe sorbet - without need for an icecream machine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZm__-C_5iI
Guess I stumped a lot of people The answer is cantaloupe! Here are some of the #healthbenefits of cantaloupe: it is a rich food source of vitamins A and C., which as you know are antioxidants that protect your cells by neutralizing free radicals. And free radicals are thos baddies which can damage your DNA cells, promoting inflammation in the body.
What fruit has the most beta carotene, the anti-oxidant which fights free radicals and converts into Vitamin A: apricots, cantaloupe, oranges, peaches, tangerines, or nectarines? Hint - it's in the pic below.
It's tougher to get fresh veggies these days & easy to slip into too many fast food meals - but now more than ever we need to supply our bodies with the good nutrients veggies provide!
Now that we have more time to prepare healthy breakfasts, how about this one . . .
