A note to our expectant mommies. You are seen. You are heard. We love you.
MOHAWK CREATION STORY: "In the sky world the woman was pregnant she asked her husband to make her tea. So, he dug up roots. When the pregnant woman looked into... the hole he dug, she fell through and on earth it was all water. The water animals saw her falling and went to help, the swan flew up and put the woman on their wings. The turtle said, "put her on my back" and the woman asked if she could have some soil. So, the water animals went down into the water, some didn’t make it, but the otter came back with the soil and gave it to the woman. The woman danced around the turtles back and as she danced the earth grew, and that’s why there's Turtle Island. The sky domes represents the sky world."- Hilda Nicholas In mohawk culture the turtle represents the earth.
