Ringing in this New Year, for many, was a bit different to say the least. With restrictions still in place throughout Canada it can be assumed that most Canadians kept noise makers, party hats and confetti bombs off their New Year's Eve shopping lists. Ever the optimist, I've got all those items underlined, starred and bolded, in anticipation for next year's celebrations. Now that the "dust" has settled, let's take a "brief" look back on real estate in 2020. , ... , ! A strong demand for housing over the second half of 2020 nearly offset the impact caused by shutdowns in the spring. Despite the pandemic our housing market is entering 2021 in more balanced conditions than we have seen in over five years. It's anticipated that Calgary's Real Estate market will continue trending towards balanced conditions as we progress into 2021. Our ability to thrive during this pandemic does not surprise me. There is an Alberta Strong phrase that I think of often after first seeing it trending as we banned together to help our neighbours, friends and loved ones during the 2013 floods and again during the fires in Fort MacMurray. This past December I saw many examples of Albertans again banning together to support each other and our local businesses. Maybe there's just something in the water.
