One of the colors that is making a strong presence this year is the color green. This soft sage is actually Grasshopped AF-415 by @benjaminmoore and depending on the light and time of day can read soft, as it does here, or moody. I was surprise at how much it changed based on the lighting in the room! We actually layered in several shades of green in this space, as the ground of the rug is a completely different green than the walls. The cushions pull colors from the artwork..., and the chairs on the opposite side of the sofa are in a tone on tone fabric that is yet another shade of green...and it all works together splendidly! The homeowners loved a layered, collected look and using the different tones of the same color further enhanced the mood we were working to create. So don't be afraid to mix up your colors! The Christmas decorations are gone and it seems like the Holidays were a lot longer than just three weeks ago! (Does anyone feel the same way?) The beginning of the year has not gone the way that I hoped, and goals that I had set are going to take a lot longer to put into motion. I am working at not being discouraged by this...and yes...it is hard NOT to focus on the negative...but I am choosing to have faith. Faith that things will still work out for the good. Faith that eve...n in lockdown and kids at home and less time to do all the "things" that I had planned... I will grow. I will choose joy. I will take one day at a time and find good in it. I will adjust my goals and not give up on them. I will keep my eyes on God who tells me that when I do that, I can walk in wide open spaces. So in a time where we are in Emergency lockdown, and curfews are in place, and I am told to stay at home, I can STILL be free when I focus on God instead of myself. I can know freedom in a world that is limiting it in a really big way. That gives me comfort in these crazy times. I am beginning to notice that more people are renovating their kitchens to make them more functional for everyday living. Maybe they need more storage, or longer stretches of counter space for cooking with the kids. Maybe they have always hated the layout or have had some water issues so they have no choice but to repair the damage. Whatever your reason, customizing your home is a good thing and the fact that you get a great return on kitchen investment is a bonus! The key t...o a good kitchen design is balancing the layout with how you want your space to function. This homeowner exchanged a window and a door to provide for an additional run of cabinetry, substantially increasing her storage. We eliminated a peninsula and added in pantry storage instead. We used classic finishes that worked with her century home, but also wouldn't date in 5 years so her investment would have timeless appeal. They are a great way to add some architectural interest and texture to an ontherwise plain space. Oh how I love the look of libraries! There is just something about books stacked on shelves that just makes my heart happy and totally makes me feel at home. When this client began the makeover of her living room, finding a place for her extensive book collection--that was all in one place-- was important to her. Before these homeowners even purchased this property, they called me in to see if the family room that they wanted to create off the kitchen would work. Would there be enough space? Would they have enough room for seating without it feeling too crowded? Would they have room for a fireplace...and a television? And shelving for their huge collection of books? And what about the kitchen...do we keep it as-is or do we renovate? So many questions!!! ... But no worries, I was able to consult with them AND give them the confidence that YES...all those things would work out fine. And YES, there would be enough space for all the features they wanted. And Yes, with careful planning and choosing finishes that didn't enclose the space the room would work to meet their physical needs and still look open and inviting. Did we deliver? Yes! The main floor of this home went through some major remodeling changes, and the end result was everything they hoped for.
