First big snow storm of 2021 in Eastern Ontario!

With Christmas and New Year’s behind us.....Easter is now just around the corner! Hannah was busy breeding and hatching different breeds of birds over the past few months and we are now getting quite the variety of coloured eggs in the coop.

Poor Mama Silkie was getting too much unwanted attention from our roosters. Her back was losing a lot of feathers. So, we got her a hen saddle to help with the feather loss. Of course, it had to be cute too.

It’s coop clean-out day on Belle Vista Farm. We used to only do this once in awhile since we had so few hens but with 30+ hens now, it needs to be done more often! Always wear your mask though, as chickens are dusty creatures!

We lost a few eggs to the cold (cracked shells) but the membranes were still intact, so I decided to scramble them and give them back to the girls! Also gave them back the egg shells. They don’t seem to be complaining...

Our first Ameraucana egg! This one is from one of the ladies I hatched out of the incubator this summer. Now, time for breeding and even more Ameraucanas!

Fresh brown eggs from healthy and happy free-run hens. Lots available. Contactless pick-up only on weekends due to bylaws - located in Crysler-area. $5 for a 12 or $6 for 18.

Their time on the farm is almost over. This is the hard part. We could not have asked for a cuter, sweeter pair to have as our first pigs. They will be missed but we are very thankful for what they have done for us. Our first adventure with pigs was not easy, with Charlotte’s umbilical hernia and Wilbur’s leg injury, but it was great nonetheless. Thank you to these two!!
