Happy International Women's Day!

The BEL Rotary 41st Annual Polar Plunge is almost in the books, and despite Covid 19 has been a huge success. Thanks to the intrepid plungers, the generosity of our community who stepped up and pledged them and our amazing sponsors more than $22,000 has been raised to date. We know this is a year like none other, and now more than ever many people in our community need support. This has also been a year when many charities and foundations have seen significant drops in the...ir fundraising. Monies raised in the plunge will support the local foodbanks, Camp Kawartha, Kawartha Wildlife Centre, Community Care Peterborough, Cystic Fibrosis, Sick Children’s Hospital, Suicide Awareness and the Lakefield Legion. Fundraising will also support the Polio Plus initiative which is supporting infrastructure in developing countries to facilitate the distribution of the Covid 19 vaccine and the Rotary Foundation which helps funds work at home and across the globe. BEL Rotary has responded to the need in the community during this difficult time. To date the club has supported front line workers with masks and hand sanitizer, provided hot meals to the staff and residents of the Youth Emergency Shelter, provided treats to LTC workers and residents, supported the local foodbanks, provided the makings of Thanksgiving dinner to families and provided the gift of Christmas through our enhanced Adopt a Family program. Money raised during the plunge will allow us to continue this support during the coming months. "Never to young" Future Rotarians Emmalena (5) and Rhyland (3) walked to raise awareness of the efforts of Rotary and it's partners as they celebrated World Polio Day, October 24th. BEL Rotary has been a proud supporter of polio eradication for more than 3 decades. The club with the support of our amazing community has raised tens of thousands of dollars. We are so close!
