"The body is the prop of the self." Today we celebrate and honour the Birthdate (Dec 14, 1918) of BKS Iyengar (1918 - 2014). This video is from the celebration of his 95th Birthday. Iyengar yoga is not just physical yoga. Yes we practice for physical well being for health but his message in this video urges us to move from the outer body to the inner layer of the body (somatic level).
Senior level Iyengar Yoga instructor Marla Apt was asked to suggest one set of poses you could do for decades, with modifications to honor the changes in energy and ability you’ll encounter at different times.

I am old, and death inevitably approaches. But both birth and death are beyond the will of a human being. They are not my domain. I do not think about it. Yoga has taught me to think of only working to live a useful life...I will never stop learning, and it have tried to share some lessons with you. I do pray that my ending will be your beginning. Connection not perfection
When people with pain move more, they develop greater physical capacity and strength, and that can help reduce their pain levels over time, he said. But when people believe that pain equals damage, they are less likely to move because they are feeling pain when they do so. We wanted to develop resources so people can understand that pain is not necessarily a sign of damage, so they would be more likely to exercise and do the things they should do to help them recover.

We’ve been granted permission to open the studio for you to practice with the following provisions:... - masks are worn while in the studio - you bring props as you have been doing - hands are washed - you come prepared to practice as we don’t have a change room And.... here’s a NEW restriction... The teacher will NOT be providing instruction under current restrictions. Instead you may practice what you know and the teacher present will be there to ensure safety and answer questions. Students who are already registered for Kelly’s classes just show up as per the schedule, if you wish to be with us in studio. We expect the no instruction restriction is temporary and look forward to resuming classes soon. Namaste Kelly

If we align the body in asanas [poses] correctly, the muscle and nerve fibres are nourished and begin to work again, and the body is given a chance to heal itself. Iyengar taught that yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what cannot be cured. I have found that to be true.
