Here’s a good article about an area of our lives that we might forget about in the craziness of trying to keep things sanitized these days. http://driving.ca//reduce-the-risk-cleaning-your-car-for-c

In light of the provincial announcement yesterday and after careful consideration we will be modifying our schedule for a two week period but will be subject to change depending on the situation. Going forward we will be changing our hours to 8am 4pm Mon Fri to fall in line with some local suppliers. We will be available for emergency service only, by appointment for this period. The shop will be locked. You can email, call, text, or message on the Facebook business pa...ge to reach us during business hours. This is a tough decision but is being made in order to meet the federal and provincial goal of slowing the spread of this virus and to avoid the health care system from becoming overburdened while we still try to meet the needs of the community. In the past couple of weeks we’ve heard if you don’t need to go out, stay home many times and the need for this seems to be growing. We are trying to do our part and hope you all understand. #communityresponsibility

Something interesting we saw today. This is trailer hitch wiring that was installed elsewhere. Seems like a simple job but the small details matter. The pictures show a power wire run through a metal hole under the car. In the second picture you can see where it’s rubbing through the sheath on the wire. Best case scenario a fuse burns and there will be no more trailer lights. The details matter. This was a service they paid good money for and because of a poor installation they would have had future issues having to spend more money to get it repaired if not caught. Are the small details taken care of on your vehicle?

If you are thinking about purchasing winter tires this season, the winter tire manufacturer rebates will be ending this month. Depending on the manufacturer there is between 2 weeks and the remainder of the month to qualify on the purchase of 4 tires.

I frequently hear people say they don’t build them like they used to or I’d rather be in an accident in an older car that didn’t crush like the new ones. Here’s proof of the technology and advancements in the new cars that keep us safer than the older cars. Which one would you rather be in? https://youtu.be/C_r5UJrxcck

Do you like to feed the birds? Do you keep your bird seed in the garage near the car or feed the birds near where your car is parked? If you do then there is a good chance that you will experience a scenario much like the one you see in the pictures. Mice, chipmunks, and squirrels will collect the abundant food source (seeds) and store them in the safe, warm confines of your engine bay. Keep seeds stored in a metal bin with a secure lid and don’t feed the birds near where you park your car if possible.

Winter’s coming! Make sure you’re not like this poor driver, stuck in the ditch at the end of your driveway. Get your winter tires on early. If you need new winter tires, now’s the time to get them. All of the manufacturers have their rebates in effect. Give us a call so you can make sure you’re planted on the road this winter!

Just a reminder that this is one of those times of the year when small rodents are looking harder for warm places to nest. The various warm cavities in your car are the perfect place for them to build a home. It’s a good idea to take a few moments and check some of these areas for signs of ride at intrusion before it becomes a problem. This is a car that came in this week running poorly with a check engine light on. It turned out to be some chewed wiring in the engine bay causing the issue. Luckily this was a simple repair for the customer!

I always recommend a pre purchase inspection on a used car prior to the decision to buy. A safetied vehicle does not mean it's a good vehicle. This is a picture of a transmission oil pan on a car an individual purchased about a month and a half ago safetied and e-tested from a well known dealership. The oil pan passes a safety with all of the scaled up rust but should be replaced before it leaks and causes damage to the transmission or leaves them stranded. This could happen ...simply from running over debris in the road that hits the pan causing a leak. There's no telling how thin the metal is. When we buy a used car the thought is that there won't be any money needing to be spent on it for 6 months to a year outside of regular maintenance. That's what we all think in the back of our minds. An issue like this oil pan can be used as leverage during negotiations or just be one item in a list that determines this isn't the car for you. Before a used car purchase, have it inspected by a technician you trust so they can point out items like this for you. It could save you money or prevent you from making a purchase that doesn't fit your expectations.
