Happy New Year's everyone!!! What are YOUR WINS for 2020??? Boy has 2020 been a CRAZY ride but I look back with so much amazement on all the things I have GAINED this year ...... Time at home has been so precious, and stopping the road warrior travel has given me time to relish in taking care of myself and my space in ways I haven't been able to in years. I was able to watch my littles grow a little extra this year I may have not taught as many classes, but I did use that time wisely spending time with family I had time to work in my home, in thlhe yard and spend time in my SPACE. Instead of flying out to another country and vacationing, I was able to travel our province for a staycation Looking forward to MORE time in the ocean in 2021. We built an amazing online fitness community that will grow with us into 2021 and we are so excited. . So many gifts for me in 2020 - and that is where I choose to focus. I refuse to to give my energy to anything I "lost" or the things I "miss" and instead deliberately choose to focus on my wins, my growth, and the good things. And I have BIG plans in 2021 and can't WAIT to grow this community with a focus on mindset and moving us all from stuck to sustainable in EVERY facet of our lives. When fitness is so deeply engraved in your heart and you get to teach to an incredible group on zoom it really pulls at the heart strings, it took everything in me not to cry at the end, thank you to Shannon for trusting in me to cover your class my heart is so very full right now. I have been so incredibly frustrated because my hip has been injured so to get to teach a full 60 mins of Zumba today was heaven. Congrats!! You made it to DAY 5! How are you feeling? As you can imagine, maintaining your metabolism is a lifetime job. Thats why I left todays topic for the final day its something that will serve you well into the future. Have you read the email yet? If not, I posted a link in the comments. Its all about the power of MOVEMENT and finding ways to sneak in even MORE over the course of the day.... NEAT, non-exercise activity thermogenesis, is the absolute SECRET SAUCE to weight loss and health. Move more throughout your day (tracking activity/steps is critical) and watch your body change! Simple things like parking further away, taking the stairs, walk/stand breaks, etc., lay the foundation for LASTING change. TODAYS ACTION: Squeeze in an extra 5-10 minutes of activity and share it in the comments!

As I mentioned, regular exercise is good for gut health, stress levels, sleep, body composition and so much more. Resistance training specifically is essential both to calorie burn AND fitness. It also helps you build and maintain muscle, which is critical as you age! We all naturally lose muscle as we get older, which can affect your metabolism, activity level, and your overall wellness. Resistance training is an area SO many women I work with skimp on, because they lock in on foodand only foodchanges. Why? Many of us believe strength training is complex or requires too much time. Im here to SIMPLIFY!!! I host LIVE workouts each Monday and Friday here in the group, and you can watch the replays at any time (hintcheck yesterdays video and if you are a beginner, just do the first round). It can be tempting to shrug off the importance of protein, hydration, and cutting back on sugar but youll be a believer once you feel (AND SEE!) your results first hand. If you need support, post here! Thats exactly what this group is for :-) In the meantime, if you find the changes youre making are giving you some temporary cravings or a drop in energy, try: 1. Drinking a cup of tea. If you feel laggy, green tea can give you an energy boost, plus it helps balance your blood sugar and boosts fat burning. 2. Taking a walk outside. This will change up your environment to cut cravings AND add to your NEAT burn. 3. Going to bed early. If you have cravings tonight, do yourself a favor and switch up your routine. Sleep is a big part of the metabolic process! Brushing your teeth right after dinner helps, too. Also, make sure you fill out your daily worksheet. Stay strong! We are in this together.

BREAKING THROUGH A PLATEAU Do you feel like youre doing everything right but still arent getting the results you want!? Heres one overlooked area to consider. How N.E.A.T. are you?! ... Stick with me here in all honesty, how much are you moving during the day? (Not including your workouts.) The National Academy of Sports Medicine calls this the low-hanging fruit of keeping your metabolism fired up. All you have to do is find simple ways to sneak activity into your day: Stand instead of sit. Get up every 30-60 minutes to stretch or take a brief walk (even if its just to the printer or water fountain!). Find ways to add activity to your evenings could be as easy as 15 extra mins of chores! Turn on some music to make them more fun. Have a mini dance party! I know these sound really simple, but the fact is, when all else fails its super helpful to go back to the basics! Non-exercise-activity thermogenesis (NEAT) is one of your bodys MAJOR calorie burners. Staying active as much as possible during the day will go a long way towards accelerating your results.
