To the members of the English Speaking Section of the Bar of Montreal: It is with a heavy heart that we learned of the unexpected passing of a long-standing mem...ber and friend of our section, Mtre Richard McConomy. Attorney since 1971, Richard practiced family law and general litigation for nearly 50 years. A Mediator since 1986, he established the English language mediator-certification course for the Quebec Bar. A recognized pioneer in the mediation movement, Richard pleaded cases that established jurisprudence in many areas and helped create the Child Support Guidelines. He has assisted in training thousands of mediators in Canada, USA, Belgium and France. Richard served as President of the Bar of Montreal in 1996-1997. Other accolades and leadership include President of Centraide Montreal, United Way Canada, Family Law Committee of the Canadian Bar Association. He also served the Irish community as Grand Marshal of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and was a long-time legal advisor to the United Irish Societies of Montreal. Heartfelt tributes from Montrealers of all sectors underline Richard’s humanity, great warmth and loving sense of humour. We offer sincere condolences to our friend, his dear wife, the Honourable Ms. Pierrette Sevigny, to their daughter Elizabeth and to the entire family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam, Harry H.
