Please read the update from Fundy Dental about the current status of dental emergency treatment in NS. Our dentists will continue to triage and assess our own patients if you leave a message (902-538-9065), but all of Drs Schofield, Easson and Coady are helping at Fundy Dental during their regular hours. Fundy Dental will be staffed by dentists Mon to Fri from 9am to 1pm to answer your calls, provide necessary advice, prescriptions and/or referrals to a designated emergency clinic. Please contact their office by phone (902-681-9111) or email ([email protected]) and our dentists will triage and assess all patient inquiries.

We are looking forward to returning to work! Please check out these FAQs regarding emergencies, missed appointments and scheduled appointments: When will dentists return to work? What type of dental treatment will be provided? From June 5 to June 19, dental offices in Nova Scotia will provide treatment to patients with dental emergencies, or patients requiring urgent care. Routine and preventative dental treatment, such as dental cleanings, will not be provided initially. We... expect to return to routine care on June 19. Is it safe to go to the dentist? The Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Strang, has developed a thorough set of regulations and protocols that ensure the safety of our patients, staff, and ourselves. These guidelines include use of additional personal protective equipment, disinfection of high touch surfaces throughout the office, and following social distancing guidelines in all common spaces. What changes will I notice in the office at my first appointment? Patients will be asked to call the office upon their arrival in the parking lot, and will be directed to enter the office when it is safe to do so. You will be asked to complete a COVID-19 screening form prior to the beginning of your appointment. When entering the building, patients should be wearing their community mask and will need to sanitize their hands. At this time, we ask that patients attend their appointments alone, with the exception being children accompanied by a parent or guardian, or a patient requiring additional care. After your appointment, we will complete all necessary paperwork as quickly as possible, and as always, will have contactless payment methods available. What should I do if I missed my appointment while the office was closed? If you had an appointment scheduled with a dentist or a hygienist, we will be in touch with you to reschedule your appointment as we work through our patients with emergencies. Please note that due to physical distancing and disinfection guidelines all patients must be screened by phone prior to entering the clinic. We cannot accept drop-ins at this time. We appreciate your patience during this period. Is my upcoming appointment still scheduled? If you have an appointment with a dentist or hygienist at Appletown Dental after June 19th, this appointment remains in our schedule. However, due to public health protocols, we will need to speak with you directly prior to your appointment. If you receive a reminder call from our office that you are unable to answer, please return our call in a timely manner in order to keep your scheduled appointment.

Dental offices in Nova Scotia will be authorized starting June 5 to provide emergency and urgent dental treatment in their clinics. While our office has always followed strict infection control guidelines, we will be following additional protocols identified by the Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia and in collaboration with Public Health. What’s the difference between emergency, urgent, and non-urgent dental treatment? Dental emergency: potentially life-threatening condi...tions which require immediate treatment. Urgent dental care: conditions that require immediate attention to relieve severe pain and/or risk of infection. Non-urgent dental care: includes regular check-ups and hygiene appointments and are not to be performed until June 19. We will be able to provide all dental procedures starting on June 19. For more information please contact us at 902-538-9065

FUNDY DENTAL CURRENTLY IS WORKING REDUCED HOURS for Walk-In Emergencies only: 9am-1pm on Monday to Friday The Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia has closed ...dental offices, limiting treatment to patients with true dental emergencies. If you are had a previously schedule appointment, broken tooth without pain, sensitivity or other non-emergent issue call the office when dental practices are able to provide regular services in a few weeks. If you have a TRUE DENTAL EMERGENCY, however, leave a message on our voicemail (902-681-9111) and one of our dentists will get back to you during our reduced walk-in hours from 9am-1pm on Monday to Friday. There is no charge for a dentist to call in a prescription to your local pharmacy so travelling to the office may not be necessary. For patient that arrive for treatment during our walk-in times, please be aware of the following protocols we are implementing: We are restricting the number of patients in the office during this time Upon arrival we ask you call the office to speak with a dentist who will ask you the following questions: - Have you travelled outside of Nova Scotia within the past 14 days? - Do you have flu-like symptoms (cough, fever, trouble breathing)? - Have you been in close contact (2m) with a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past 14 days? - Have you been in close contact with a person with a fever or new onset of cough that has travelled outside of NS within the past 14 days? Patients that are high risk or COVID-19 positive require treatment at one of the central locations (VG & IWK hospitals or Dalhousie Dental). A referral can be sent directly from a Fundy Dentist without the patient being seen at the office. Low risk patients should be treated with medication first and the dentist will call a prescription into your pharmacy --- or --- if a simple extraction can be performed patients will be called into the office in appropriate sequence for definitive care today. Thank you for you cooperation during these uncertain times as we try to provide appropriate care while reducing the risk of spreading the coronavirus during the early stage of the outbreak.

APPLETOWN DENTAL IS CLOSED during the coronavirus outbreak! The Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia, based on recommendations of the Chief Medical Officer, has closed dental offices to reduce the spread of COVID-19 until further notice. We support this decision as an appropriate measure for public health and safety in our province. Dentists have a duty to treat our patients with true dental emergencies (uncontrolled bleeding, facial swelling, pain not controlled by OTC me...dications). If you have a TRUE DENTAL EMERGENCY please leave a message on our voicemail (902-538-9065) and one of our dentists will get back to you OR you can contact Fundy Dental Centre (902-681-9111) for treatment during their reduced walk-in hours, currently from 9am-1pm on Monday to Friday. Do contact Fundy in advance of a visit as there is no charge for a dentist to call in a prescription to your local pharmacy so travelling to the office may not be necessary. Also, please review their new protocols for treating patients during the social distancing recommendations https://fundydental.com/coronavirus/ FOR OUR REGULAR PATIENTS. If you had a previously schedule appointment, experience a broken tooth without pain, sensitivity or other non-emergent issue then please call the office when dental practices can provide regular services again, hopefully in a few weeks. We will contact all our patients that had appointments during our time off to reschedule on a future date. We appreciate your understanding. We hope you and your family stay safe and healthy during this uncertain time! Drs. Schofield, Easson, Coady and the AppleTown Dental Centre Staff

AppleTown Dental is closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and follow the recommendations of the authorities. Protecting the overall health and safety of our patients and staff is our top priority. Currently, we are able to continue to work safely using the universal precautions we always employ for sterilization of surfaces and instruments. At this time, we require cooperation and honesty from our patients in order to protect one another. This means that if any of the f...ollowing situations apply to a patient, we ask that they reschedule appointments for any elective dental treatment. - Have travelled outside of Canada within the past 14 days - Have flu-like symptoms (cough, fever, trouble breathing) - Have been in close contact (2m) with a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past 14 days - Has been in close contact with a person with a fever or new onset of cough that has travelled outside of Canada in the past 14 days We thank you for your assistance as we navigate this challenging time. - Drs. Easson, Coady, Schofield and staff

Consider this your daily reminder to unclench your jaw. Teeth clenching and grinding is a very common reaction to stress, and can lead to headaches, tooth sensitivities and more. Find out more in the 2019 Oral Health Report https://nsdental.org/

We cannot thank 100 Men (AV Chapter) enough! We received a total of $12,800 from Dr. Schofield’s presentation on June 20, 2017. This money will help cover den...ture fees and reduce the cost of care for FDCP patients in need. We are still accepting patient applications so check out the website to find out more about this great project (www.fundydental.com/community). You can also email [email protected] for more detail, or to inquire about ways to support the program. http://thechronicleherald.ca//1485326-another-stellar-nigh

April is Oral Health Month. With lots of talk recently about children's oral health, we recognize that brushing a toddler's teeth can be challenging. Check out this video below by pediatric dentist Dr. Goldenberg for some great helpful hints!

It has been a long time since I posted an update about my brother's injury - it's hard to believe that it has been 3.5 yrs since Mark Schofield's accident in Th...ailand. Through FB you raised nearly $80,000 dollars to medi-vac him home and contribute to his subsequent therapies. Our family still cannot thank you enough! Although he is still not back to 100% he continues to have a good recovery and we feel he will be independent and able to work in the near future. Elizabeth and I had talked about the 'under-served' population in dentistry for a long time, but it was partially through Mark's injury & recovery that we formalized the program for our new Community Project. Three years in the making, it feels great to have the FDCP finally up and running. Few of you would need to take advantage of this service, but if you know anyone who has fallen through the cracks or would be eligible for our program, please have them contact our office for more details (fundydental.com/community, or email [email protected]).
