Our Athletic Therapist, Leon, is teaching his patient how to protract his scapulae and activate the serratus anterior muscle. If a patient displays scapular winging, this is a great exercise to strengthen the serratus anterior and correct winging. This exercise is likely better when done against the wall, but Leon used this method for the purpose of this photo. In less technical terms Leon is teaching his patient to strengthen stabilizers to improve posture and decrease discomforts associated with poor posture. Patients may come in with symptoms like shoulder pain or neurological symptoms. #BETATherapeutics #HeartInTheCommunity
