Have you ever wanted to start a revolution and realized that you didn't have any buttons. Well we have you covered with this workhorse of a button maker machine. I think it is 21/4 or maybe 21/2 size button maker. It is solid and comes with the hardware to bolt it down. Did you know that the first political buttons were made during the 1896 presidential elections. We will start the bidding off at $25.00 and end this thursday jan 28th at 5:05pm. Thank you so much for your ongoing support.

Up next in our auction are 58 tin boxes, two tin trays and a glass bottle (not sure why the glass bottle but it is old :) There are a handful of lovely tins here, and of course a handful of rusty dented ones. We will start this auction off at $20.00 and end next Thursday Dec 17 at 5pm. Thank you again for your support. And for a little history: The original concept of packaging products in tin cans dates back to 1795 when Napoleon Bonaparte offered a prize of 12,000 francs fo...r anyone who could invent a method of preserving food unspoiled over distance and time. Nicolas Appert invented the method of preserving food in an airtight container and was awarded the prize in 1810. This was the birth and the beginning of Tin manufacturing. Fellow Frenchman Pierre Durand (aka Peter Durand) was granted a patent in 1810 from King George 3rd for the idea of preserving food and fashion items of storage from Tinplate See more

Our next auction piece is this brand new unlocked Samsung S7 cell phone. Yes this is an older cell phone (2016) but it has many good features including being water proof up to 5 feet for 30 minutes (just enough for a good swim:) It has a good 12mp camera and 32 GB of storage and it is completely dust resistance. Now after doing a little research you will see that the S7 was known to overheat while charging in some cases. I have talked to people who owned one and they did say that they never had a problem. I also kept it plugged in for a couple days and it showed no signs of overheating so really it is hit or miss. This auction will start at $30 and end thursday Jan 28th, 2021 at 5:00 pm. Thanks so much for your support.

Up next on our auction are approx. 256 sets of salt and pepper shakers and approx. 18 singles (l tripped :) There are some very lovely little shakers here. Did you know it is believed that a salt shaker was first invented in 1858, by John Mason, a tinsmith from America, but it wasn't until the 1920's that sets of salt and pepper shakers were commonly manufactured. We will start this auction off at $40.00 and end this Friday nov 27th at 5:00pm. Thank you for your interest and support.

Hello. We apologize if it seems that our donation drop times have been a little whacky. It has been a crazy time since reopening and we are trying to keep up as well as keep everyone safe. We rely on your donations in helping us give back to the community. The last few months we have been swamped with donations. Starting tomorrow, we will resume our donation times of Wednesday to Saturday 8:00am to 3:30pm. We are closed Sunday and Monday and will use Tuesday to organize our donations. We ask that you be respectful with what you donate. We also take furniture and will pick up if necessary. Thank you so much for your ongoing support of The Bethany Bargain Bin Society and if you have any interest in volunteering we would love to talk with you.

Up next on this auction is a vintage metal claw foot spinning oak piano stool. Sister Bonnie has had this for the last 50 years and not sure of where it came from. It is in wonderful shape and spins up and down as needed. We will start this auction off at $40.00 and end next Thursday Nov 12 at 5:03pm. Thanks so much for all of your support at Bethany Bargain Bin.

Next on our auction is a Tri-Ang speed boat made by the Merton Lines Bros. Ltd (London, England). It is a lovely little boat and looks like it would have had a little winder or something at one time, you may even be able to find something to wind the mechanism. The Lines Bros Ltd was a British toy manufacturer which started shortly after the First World War (1917). We will start the bidding at $20.00 and end this Sat. Aug. 22 at 7:05pm. Thank you so much. Here is a little... more info on the Lines Bros.: Lines Bros Ltd, at its peak in 1947, was claimed by the company to be the largest toy maker in the world. Under the Tri-ang Toys brand name. At the start of the Second World War, production of children's toys was deemed non-essential by the British Government. As a result, production facilities were converted to weapons manufacture, specifically the Sten Mk III Submachine Gun. Manufacture of toys resumed shortly after the war ended. See more

Bethany Bargain Bin Society would like to thank you so much for your continued support with our reopening. It has been great to see everyone and it has been great to have your respect in matters concerning covid-19. As of Friday July 31 we ask that you wear a mask when shopping at Bethany Bargain Bin (as mandated by the Nova Scotia Government). We do understand the medical and age situations where you cannot wear a mask and we respect that. There has been many questions on ...our Bag Day Sale and it is difficult to give a specific date on when we will bring this back. So for now we can only guess that it may happen again in the winter. But we are and will continue to have many sales, right now for $1.50 you can get ladies pants, shorts, capris, sweaters are 2 for 1, blouses are 3 for $5.00, watches with new batteries are only $4.00 and the list goes on. Please come by, we will be glad to see you. :) See more

Bethany Bargain Bin Society 22.08.2020

please read through to the end if you are shopping with us :) ******* Welcome back, everyone! It’s so good to be open again and have your support here at Bethany Bargain Bin. We’ve missed you!... Many of us are feeling the relief that comes with the lifting of restrictions. We also know that COVID is not over yet. If we take precautions, it increases our chances of being able to stay open. Bethany Bin is a second hand store, which means customers lean over bins and touch multiple items. We know the clothes are safe when they go out on the floor because we have a system in place to keep them from going out right away, but we increase our chances of spread as people come into the store and handle items. Please remember that many of our staff, volunteers, and customers are in the most at-risk sectors of the population- those over the age of 60 and/or with underlying chronic health conditions. Like all retailers, our staff and volunteers are taking a risk to stay open to serve the community, and are relying on your co-operation. 54% of people testing positive for COVID don’t know how they contracted it. We will be able to stay open if we feel confident that everyone is following the guidelines to keep Bethany Bin safe. We are very lucky to live somewhere that has so far had relatively few cases. We can help keep up our excellent track record by following a few simple guidelines: - Keep six feet apart- this reduces the chance of getting or passing the virus. - Please use hand sanitizer when you enter the store, and again when you leave. This will reduce chances of passing on or picking up the virus by touch. - Wearing a mask will reduce the chance of unknowingly breathing the virus onto items for sale or into the air. - Do not come in if you- or someone you have been in contact with- has been outside the Atlantic bubble in the past 14 days. Other parts of Canada and much of the United States are still right in the thick of things. People are understandably finding it more difficult to stay home as time goes on. But... our American neighbours are seeing more cases than before since re-opening. We can learn from this. Nova Scotians are known around the world for being kind and considerate, and supporting their neighbours. Let’s keep up our strong reputation and good COVID track record!

We hope everyone is doing okay at this time. We appear to be getting lots of donations and would ask that you please be respectful with what you drop off. Perhaps it might be better to wait a couple weeks before dropping off donations. Thank you so much and please take care.

At Bethany Bargain Bin the health and safety of our volunteers/staff, customers and their families is paramount. This auction is for five puppets. Four of them are string puppets and one is a rod puppet. These are simple basic puppets but are a joy to play with and l could on and on about the value and benefits of building / playing with puppets. Puppetry is an ancient form of performance. Some historians claim that they predate actors in theatre. There is evidence that they were used in Egypt as early as 2000 BC. Wire-controlled, articulated puppets made of clay and ivory have been found in Egyptian tombs. We will start this auction off at $20.00 and end this Saturday Feb. 29th at 5:05pm. Thank you so much for your ongoing support.

Are next auction is for two vintage Flow Blue Victoria Ware dishes, one is labeled Victoria Ware Ironstone and the other is Midulport Potter by Burgess & Liech Co. which is probably from between 1889-1919 as that is when they used the printed mark. Why was blue used? Cobalt blue was the best and least expensive pigment capable of withstanding the high temperatures of 18th and 19th century kilns. The ink and ceramic blanks of flo blue were deliberately designed to allow the ink to flow or spead into the blank. The spreading ink creates the characteristic blurred or distorted flo blue effect. Also included in this auction is a vintage rolling pin. We will start the auction off at $17.00 and end this Saturday Feb. 29 at 5:00pm. Thank you for your support.
