Happy Sunday! This was the the perfect fit-it-all-in without rushing around kinda day: A relaxing walk in the forest with @jeff_david64 to feed my spirit... Making homemade vegetable broth to feed my body Reading a fascinating book that has nothing to do with current events to feed my mind ... and always staying cozy with a scarf around my neck! Who loves wearing scarves this time of year??? (Thanks @thestoryofloveboutique for the lovely warm-me-up!) Holistic. Body. Mind. Spirit. Try to nurture all 3 each day. How did you feed yourself today? Let me know in the comments #sundayslowdown #getoutside #mindbodyspirit #holistichealth #feedyourself

TEAM or TEAM ? A divisive issue in my family to be sure, but distance be damned, I think I’ve covered all the bases this year. Pumpkin pie for the die-hard traditionalists (@jeff_david64) and then this delicious apple cake from @smittenkitchen (recipe available on their site www.smitten kitchen.com)... ... even team apple pie all the way (@michael7david ) will have to admit this apple cake is a pretty decent middle ground. And while it’s completely stuffed with apples and has absolutely icing even @emmily_david will have to agree it checks off the we need more cake box. Sadly I’ll have to share virtually this Thanksgiving . It’s not easy. Everyone has their own way of dealing with the retractions this year. Reflecting, meditation and being present. Coping. For me that’s cooking, and lots of walking. I’m thankful for the creative outlet and to be able to do both. Even though there will be many fewer at my table this year, the joy of creating a meal and remembering the warmth of past gatherings brings everyone close in my heart. This year especially I’m also thankful to have those memories as we gather at our smaller table. Happy Thanksgiving. Be well, be safe ... and eat the pie & the cake!

Soup is happening here today! Made a pot of this last week but it’s all gone so I’m gonna make more * 1 jar of frozen veg broth (made regularly from all the kitchen scraps! So great to have in the freezer)... * 1 trip to the farmers market for carrots, tomatoes, potato, onion & garlic *cut into similar sized chunks & drizzle with olive oil & roast on a sheet pan (line with parchment first) *cut a whole clove of in half crosswise and tuck in a corner of the pan to roast alongside the veggies roast cherry tom’s on the side to toss in at the end *add 1/2 the roasted veg to your stock, squeeze in the roasted garlic and purée, add more broth if too thick *chuck the rest of the roasted veg in after you soup is smooth, * season to taste ... salt, fresh ground pepper, cayenne, thyme, oregano , up to you *toppings also up to you - here I have pepitas and hemp hearts for an extra protein boost and some healthy fats what are you cooking today? Tag me & let me know

In honour of my late grandmother’s birthday, I’m sharing one of her many pithy sayings! So often the focus on getting everything just right, including - or especially- our food, overtakes the bigger picture. The lesson for me: My grandmother’s creations often did live up to their billing. The original ugly delicious! But no one cared!!! Perfection wasn’t the goal. ... She kept creating and we all enjoyed the eating. And the ongoing joke taken at her own expense. It wasn’t about the messy desserts, but the memories of much laughter and family around the table. No counting calories, no insta-worthy posts or TikTok videos. (Full disclosure - I didn’t even have a kitchen fail photo, because who takes pictures of those?) How about we change that? Show your progress, not just the end result. I’m committing, are you? Share your #playingwithfoodfail Keep playing in the kitchen. Try new things, make mistakes and repeat as often as necessary! This is how we all learn and grow ... as cooks and as people #bhiveats #ownyourplate #playingwithfood #foodfamilyfun #wisdom #memories #grandmotherswisdom
