Broader Church News (Request for Prayer) From March 1-3, the chief justice of the Supreme Court of British Columbia will be hearing arguments regarding the constitutionality of the public health orders in that province prohibiting in person worship due to Covid-19. Three churches have launched this challenge: the Free Reformed Church of Chilliwack, the Immanuel United Reformed Church of Abbotsford, and the Riverside Calvary Chapel of Langley supported by a number of other c...hurches and individuals. The situation in BC is unique in Canada. It is the only jurisdiction in Canada (if not North America) where all religious services are prohibited even though bars, restaurants, gyms, grocery stores and retail outlets can operate freely so long as they have certain protocols in place. For the churches, at the heart of this case is the headship of Christ over His church and the command of the Lord to gather together to worship Him. Since the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees to every Canadian citizen freedom of religion, assembly and conscience, and since the only ground that will be accepted by the court must be legal in nature, the churches in B.C. have had no choice but to challenge the constitutionality of these orders in court. The consistories of the Free Reformed Churches in British Columbia have asked the churches to make this a matter of prayer. May the King of the church so work in the heart of the judge that justice and fairness may prevail and that the work of the church and the kingdom of Christ may continue unimpeded. See more

It is with sadness that we announce that early in the morning, on Friday, February 12, our Lord called home Clarence Vanderschaaf. at the age of 83. He passed away peacefully in the hospital following his battle with cancer. Pray for his wife Jane, the children, and all the family at this difficult time. The funeral will likely be Wednesday.
