Bethel Pentecostal Church 08.11.2020

It is with a sad heart we announce the passing of Herman Frantzen on Monday, November 23, 2020. Herman was a resident of Dawson Creek for many years, and long time member of Bethel. For a short time Herman lived at Heritage Heights before moving to Victoria to live with his daughter, Lorelee Bergeron. Herman was a faithful church attendant who loved Jesus. He was often referred to as preacher Herman, as he loved to share his faith with others. He will be deeply missed, but what a reunion he is experiencing today. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Gordon & Linda Resignation November 22, 2020 Watch the video of Pastor Gordon reading the following letter this morning: https://youtu.be/HJkX8yr9HZ0... Just over 20 years ago, we received a phone call asking us to consider coming to Dawson Creek. For the next several months we did a lot of praying and waiting on the Lord and tried to hear what the Lord was saying to both of us. By mid October of 2000, we both knew the Lord was calling us to Dawson Creek to let our name stand for Lead Pastor. In December we came to preach for the call, and we were elected as Pastor’s of Bethel. It is with mixed emotions we announce our resignation as your Pastors and our retirement as Lead Pastors. It has been an exciting journey for the past 20 years as your Pastors. We have so many great memories. We love Dawson Creek, our home here, and mostly our dear church family. In November of 1971, the Lord called us into full time ministry. For 49 years, we have served as lead pastors with seven different congregations. Almost a third of our lives has been spent as your pastors, loving you and having you love us back, and we have counted it a great privilege and honor. For the past few years, Linda and I have prayed and sought the Lord as to His timing. Over a year ago I started to talk with our church board about our future transition. I had shared with our District about our plans to resign in April of 2020, and then Covid hit. With the pandemic upon us, we felt, along with the District, that it would be wiser to wait until the fall. When we came to Dawson Creek, the Lord laid on us the mantle of leadership for Bethel, and now He has been lifting it from us. Churches have seasons and so does leadership. We have sensed in our spirit that our season here has come to an end, and it is time for new leadership to arise. Ministry, even in a great church like Bethel, takes a toll physically, spiritually, and emotionally. However, I do not resign because of discouragement or Covid, but because I know it is God’s time. For the church, it is time for a new voice, a new vision, a younger leader, and a new season. With our new board in place, we leave knowing the church will be in good hands. Our District Superintendent, Ken Russell, will be meeting with the Church board this week to outline steps to be taken as they begin a search for the next Lead Pastor. An interim pastor will probably be put in place until a new pastor is selected. There will be plenty of time to say all the things that need to be said in the days and weeks ahead. Linda and I are looking at January 31, 2021 as being our last Sunday as your Pastors. That Sunday, Jan. 31,2021, will complete our 20 years here as your pastors. We are confident in the truth that the church belongs to Jesus and He is the head. He will continue to hold you in the palm of His hand. We love all of you and are so thankful for our many years of serving Jesus together. Pastor Gordon & Linda
