It's National Espresso Day! Espresso made its debut in Italy in the early 20th century. Italy’s Luigi Bezzera owned a manufacturing plant and wanted to speed up the time it took to make his coffee. Bezzera learned that by adding steam pressure to the process, a stronger, more robust cup of coffee was produced. The beverage eventually became known as espresso, meaning fast in Italian.... Espresso is not a specific bean or roast level. In fact, any bean or roast level can be used. The brewing method is what makes it an espresso forcing pressurized hot water through finely-ground coffee creates the concentrated coffee with a delicate foam, called crema. Ciao Bella!
