Beyond Birthing 25.03.2021

I’m sorry if there is currently a 4-8 weeks waiting time to get in for a pre and postnatal consult. Believe me it is not because I don't want to help you. I truly care about you mammas, and I wish I could fit more clients into my week. But I just can’t go there anymore. Here’s a little background so you can understand * *... * Why do I choose to work part time? Because part-time work helps me to serve my people better. In the past, I came very close to a solid burn out from working too much. It resulted in being so stressed that I could barely sleep, my leisure time was mostly inexistant, and I did not have any quality time with my loved ones anymore. I felt depleted at so many levels and was questioning myself as to how I could continue running a business long term if nothing was changing. One day, I realized that caring for myself had to come first if I wanted to best serve my people. I had to learn to say no. It was hard to admit that I could not take on everyone’s pelvic health on my shoulders, but was it surprising? I was just one person after all. However, I knew that saying yes meant that I would go down the rabbit hole of anxiety and stress, and it was no longer an option if I wanted to survive. I also wanted every one of my clients to be served by a therapist who had emotional space to welcome their story, who actively listens and give them the best care, because they deserved it. And for this, I needed my own emotional space to be clear when I walked into the clinic. Concretely, what does it look like, to care about myself first? It looks like going for a ski on a Wednesday afternoon with my dogs. Calling my mom on a Monday morning to chat about our weekends. Get groceries when it is less busy to save some time. Baking a batch of muffins or cooking a meal. Going for a massage on a Tuesday afternoon after my morning shift. Get some of the boring adult life stuff done in the week so I have my weekends free to do fun things. Spend time on projects for my business to feed my creative soul, such as free content creation and video making. All of this. If you see me on the ski trails on a Wednesday afternoon, you will now understand better * * * Again I apologize for the wait and I am looking forward to helping you in your birth prep and postpartum recovery Please ensure that you book your consultations ahead of time to make sure your spot is saved - thanks so much for your understanding

This is me last Monday before my laparoscopic surgery. I was so relieved that my prayers were heard and that the nurse who put the intra veinous line only poked me once and my veins didn’t slip away. First time in a while that I didn’t cry from a needle I am so thankful for the outstanding care received at Whitehorse General Hospital before and after the surgery. I know you guys see a lot of people coming and going and maybe it feels like you’re just doing your job, but b...elieve me you’re doing more than your job. The comforting hand on my arm while I was falling asleep and the anesthesia was kicking in. The warm blankets when I woke up from surgery and was shivering like crazy. The quick administration of anti nausea medication after a failed attempt to sit up in bed, it felt like heaven. The slight adjustment in the head of the bed angle to make it more comfortable for my sore abdomen. All of this. To me it made all the difference in the world. I felt well taken care of and safe, through an event that could have felt very scary if you guys had been just doing your job . You went above and beyond. You were rocking it. If you would like to thank a health care provider who provided you with outstanding care in a vulnerable time of your life, comment below They so deserve it. I would like to send a special shout out to Sarah, Leah and Treena. Now after this experience I have lots of thoughts about how to best prepare for pelvic surgery and cesarean births. Little things that can make a difference in making your recovery smoother. Stay tuned as I put those thoughts together for ya. #laparoscopicsurgery #laparoscopy #pelvicsurgery #thebestcare #feelingvulnerable #thankyounursesanddoctors @yukonhospitals
