Nearing on a couple of weeks ago, had the great honour to be a part of Powherhouse Impact Media Group FireCircle2020. What a coming together of a diverse group of participants from across the country! In our current times, we worked through what a reunion with reverence can mean to each of us and its importance for change. We do it for HER - Human Expansion Realized - and it was an expansion, an awareness and a connection. Often we talk about the legacy we leave behind, but... it was in these words, framed in a different light, that have stuck with me these past days "We are tomorrow's ancestors." Oct 4-10 is Mental Health Awareness week. At our current time, mental health is tremendously important and it brings me to think of a conversation with Kellie Garrett, PCC, MC, ICD.D around Brené Brown’s principle that everyone is doing the best they can with the resources they have. It is not an excuse, nor allows for complacency but perhaps a perspective that is empathetic. This is not just for others but for SELF as well. I often encourage my clients to consider self ref...lecting on this question and to answer it honestly, also taking time to evaluate perhaps where change could have been made, considering what resources/supports are lacking and to be kind - kind with others and kind with self! Today and for the days going forward, I encourage you to ask yourself at the end of each day did I do the best I could? Celebrate your wins, make improvement where you need and have compassion for self. We are all human beings living a human experience and we need to give ourselves grace along the way.

"Balance is Bullsh*t" That was part of the opening for a workshop I recently did for a client. I am sure that it when you read that sentence it sparked some form of emotion for you as it did for my participants. I was met with wide eyes and looks of angst. I myself have been guilty of overworking and feelings of guilt and pressure to be 'balanced', but as I spent periods of reflection, I grappled more and more with the idea and how to achieve it. My realization - it's bull...sh*t! Close your eyes and imagine your self on a teeter totter, are you in a balanced position? My guess is not. The notion of balance is causing individuals a great deal of stress. I think that what we need to become comfortable with, is that in order to do things well we need to place our focus there and that it is ok to put one's energies in an area for a time, pushing hard and building momentum, provided that we don't stay there, that we come down and allow focus and presence in the other areas of our lives as well. There is a give and take that is needed in our individual worlds, an ebb and flow, if you will, that if we accept and pay attention to, will give us greater satisfaction and comfort than trying to keep it all on an even level.
