Beyond STEM 25.09.2021

Come meet Dr. Peter O’Shea at our STEMinar on Jan. 19th! Dr. Peter O’Shea is an engineer and physicist presently doing sustainable energy R&D at General Fusion ...Inc. Born in California, Peter moved to Saskatchewan as a boy when his rocketry-engineer father decided he’d rather do ionospheric science than deliver nuclear warheads. He received his first degree from the University of Saskatchewan in Engineering Physics, and began his plasma fusion research efforts in Boston while earning his Ph.D. in physics from MIT. During a 15 year diversion into semiconductor reliability work at PMC-Sierra, he was surprised to find one of the world’s first private fusion research companies a mile from his home. Peter is now part of a 70 person team at General Fusion attempting to develop magnetized target fusion. If successful, General Fusion technology would go a long way toward solving the world’s energy and climate change challenges. At Beyond STEM’s STEMinar 2019, Peter will review his own journey in the STEM world, share some observations made along the way, and offer encouragement to students and try to answer any questions they might have. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to learn from Dr. Peter O’Shea!
