Child Care Resource and Referral Vernon (CCRR) makes it easier for families to find and access responsive and inclusive quality licensed and registered child care by providing information, support, resources, and referral services to parents/guardians and child care providers across the province. CCRR Vernon helps connect families with the early years and child care services they need such as referrals to child care providers and community services, access to quality resourc...es and resource lending libraries, workshops, drop-in programs, and provide consultation, support, and parenting information. CCRR Vernon also provides support services and consultations to all child care providers to foster quality inclusive care through services such as workshops and training, networking opportunities, supportive program outreach, access to lending libraries, referrals to community resources, drop-in programs, and listing in a registry of licensed and License-Not-Required child care providers. We love a Good News Story Our Vernon Club put out a gratitude jar and encouraged staff to drop in a note about things they are grateful for. Before we knew it the jar was overflowing with all kinds of things our staff appreciated and was thankful for. A recurring theme that we saw was how thankful our staff were for the Club itself and the amazing experiences and opportunities it has brought them. ... We are overjoyed to hear this and it brought a tear to our eye knowing that our staff truly appreciate their time here at the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Okanagan "Gratitude turns what we have into enough" - Aesop

Note the differences between the Traditional Justice System and Restorative Justice. Restorative Justice has the main focus of repairing relationships, offenders taking accountability, and including the community in the process of healing.

Within the traditional Court System, victims of crime do not have the opportunity to share how the incident impacted their life and the ways that it affected them. Without having the opportunity to share one's story and the impacts life-changing events had on them it can lead to victims not ever feeling a sense of closure. The Restorative Justice process provides victims with a safe, non-judgmental space to share their stories and have their voices be heard by the off...ender, their supports, and others who may have been involved with the incident. This is the process that leads to healing and transformation for the victim and offender, this is Restorative Justice. See more

This week is Restorative Justice Week! Restorative justice views crime as more than breaking the law it also causes harm to people, relationships, and the community. So a just response must address those harms as well as the wrongdoing. If the parties are willing, the best way to do this is to help them meet to discuss those harms and how to bring about a resolution. Other approaches are available if they are unable or unwilling to meet. Sometimes those meetings lead to ...transformational changes in their lives. Take a look at this diagram of the Restorative Justice Development Center Restorative Justice focuses on the root causes of crime and criminal behavior and the importance of the community working together in a holistic way to support youth. When we address the root causes of one's actions (poverty, addiction, trauma, loss of belonging) we can then remove barriers and struggles that are leading to the behavior. ... If we look through a restorative lens we can then notice that every person has a different way of getting their basic needs met and it is not on us to judge how one does this but support youth in overcoming obstacles, teach new ways of sustainability and connect youth to resources within the community.
