Happy Friday folks!! This post has been brought to you by a new button I saw on the Facebook thing that said turn something 3D. As any red blooded Canadian fourty something will tell you, if someone asks you to make something 3D, you always say yes. So enjoy the splendor of 3D smoked jerky. Immerse yourself in all that is the Basically Bacon. Made fresh weekly, we can't keep this one on the shelves. Come get ya' fix at the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market every weekend, Saturdays and Sundays all year round. Wear your 3d glasses and I'll do some Matrix moves and it will be semi awesome. See you this weekend!

Happy Friday folks!! So I just felt it important to point out something I realized today. Yamamoto got his hands on some of Big G's super lucky, skill boosting, ultra mega hockey jerky last Friday. The week prior, Oilers went 0 - 3 and were out scored 13 - 1. Since the jerky found its way into the locker room, the Oilers have gone 3-0 and outscored their opponents 13 - 5. So the obvious conclusion here is that the combination of Big G's Jerky and the refreshing effects of Boo...cha beverages is almost entirely responsible for this recent hot streak. Want to support the home team? Are you unreasonably superstitious? Want to find yourself on the top line of life? Then get yourself down to the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market and fill your boots with the flavours of success!! I'll be here all weekend long, Saturdays 8:30am - 3pm and Sundays 10:30 - 3pm. Do it for the team! Do it for your tastebuds! But mostly do it because maybe it's working and the sports gods don't explain why things are the way they are and best not mess with results! Sports analyst G signing off. Go Oilers! #jerkypower

Happy Friday Folks!! So since it's called Big G Foods, I figured I should post some food. So on Wednesday I hit up the butcher and grabbed my favourite meat. That would be some big ass Brontosaurus style beef back ribs. Normally I will smoke these all day, but I felt like experimenting a little and decided to do a sous vide cook on these bad boys. Rubbed with some mustard and Red Rub, threw them in a bag and vacuum sealed them and settled in for a long cook at 150 F. Fast for...ward about 30 hours and let me tell you, other than missing the smoke flavour, these ribs were....I need some good adjectives here... (checks thesaurus) DIVINE. SCRUMPTIOUS. DELECTABLE. TOOTHSOME. Oh and YUMMY! Now a few things I've learned cooking with the sous vide. Meat looks really bad right after the sous vide. Like really bad. Like pouring out a sad beige chunk of meat bad. But fear not fellow meat lover, the sear is what nails all the flavour and colour and brings it all home. With these ribs, it went straight from the bag to under the oven broiler and I watched beef ribs go from zero to hero in about 10 minutes. The sous vide method insures all the collagen breaks down and that the fat renders making for truly tender beefy morsels on nature's stick. Want more ideas to beef up your dinner game? I'll be at the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market all weekend long, come say hi. Hear me drool about ribs. Go home with ideas. Shop local. All the good things. See you soon!

Happy Friday Folks! In this week's edition of random thoughts by Big G, what kind of gift should you get an obsessed meatitarian that probably has everything? Outside of bacons or sausages, I might have a suggestion. How about hooking them up with a mini Lego BBQ? Don't ask me where my wife found it, somewhere on the internets, but no joke, when I get something like this, it's like a little lotto win. I can't help but get my full twerk happy dance on and I can't wait to share... this with you, my fellow obsessed meatitarians. I just know you folks can appreciate the magic of Lego and BBQ together as one. Full disclosure, I could not wrap my head around step 12 and had to call on the local Lego expert, my 8 year old son, who immediately figured it out, gave me a weird look like "how did you not know that" and reminds me of it to this day. My nickname for the past 3 weeks has been Mr. Step 12 because I guess I'm not the only roast comedian in the house now So come see this architectural wonder live and in person at the Big G booth located at the main entrance of the fabulous Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market all weekend long. Saturday 8:30-3pm and Sunday 10:30-3pm. Marvel at the quality of this build, especially steps 1 - 11. The experience is guaranteed to inspire you to grill something up on an actual grill that's not made of Danish plastics. Don't have a grill? No problem, just buy some jerky and visualize one as you bite down on that smoky savoury goodness. We call that meatitation and nomnomnomaste to you my grill lacking friends See you this weekend!

Happy Friday Folks!! Before the big cold snap hits, I just wanted to take some time this week to send out my yearly friendly reminder that BBQ season never ends, it just gets trickier. Trust me when I say that BBQ cooked in -20 conditions is so much more rewarding than all them nice weather BBQs you're used to. The struggle you go through to turn that boring meat into something magical via fire is worth its weight in Liquid Gold (shameless plug alert!). So what I'm getting at... here is that if you throw on a parka and get out your fur lined snow Crocs, you can BBQ anytime and feel great about it! For example, a few minutes before this week's snow squall from hell showed up, I grilled up some face sized T-Bones and we sat at the back window watching the epic battle of Snownado vs. BBQ cover and I'm happy to report that the cover survived the onslaught thanks to the noble efforts of properly fastened Velcro straps. Use your straps folks!! I'll be at the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market this Saturday from 830am - 3pm with more helpful Velcro tips. We're not back on Sundays yet, but very soon we will be set up for curbside pickup at the market!! I'll send details as soon as we're up and running, but another option on the horizon for you to get your hands on Big G goodies and not even leave the car! See you tomorrow and stay warm!

Happy Friday Folks!! I know it's hard to always keep your chin up these days, especially when you hear things like Kim and Kanye are getting divorced. I mean, I just did not see that coming, you? But never fear folks, I'm here to help soften the blow with some good news to balance the world, we are coming back to Sundays! Effective this weekend, you will find me, my smoked meats and my smoked meat accessories at the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market every Saturday 830am - 3pm ...and now every Sunday 10:30am - 3pm, for as long as it's safe to do so. Curbside option on Saturdays also available too. So don't you dare let Kimye news get ya down. The weather ahead is lookin' real grill friendly, we landed a car on Mars and Big G is back for full weekends, it can't get much better than that right? So feel free to insert internal reggae horn sound here See you this weekend!

Happy Friday Folks!! So I was reminiscing of the times where I could go out and get a table full of another man's BBQ and just go full Gordon Ramsey on it. Full disclosure, I am a terrible date to bring to a BBQ joint. It's either unnecessary outrage or embarassing drooling/moaning, there is no in between. I was also planning a BBQ road trip down to the mecca of BBQ, good ol' US of A, but that's a big hard NOPE these days. So if you're like me, you're craving some real deal B...BQ, it's time to take DIYBBQ to new heights. Come on, you probably got time to experiment. I can give you easy tips to make this happen. Butchers got the meats. No excuses! You could try and do a Texas style brisket. Make some Memphis style ribs that smell so good it will make your neighbours want to break quarantine. Burnt ends are easier than you think if you do the right things with the right stuff. What I'm saying is Big G is ready to make Kansas City appear on your table. I have ideas that will work with whatever BBQ gear you're working with. I even offer free online support in a meat emergency, no questions asked. I have spices and sauces that will compliment your efforts. Come for a booth brainstorm session at the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market this Saturday 9am to 3pm and let's see what we can figure out. Reduced hours are still in effect, so we won't see you this Sunday. But as things improve out there, we will return ASAP to Sundays, so stay tuned and stay safe and see you Saturday!

Big G Foods 03.01.2021

Happy Friday Folks!! We don't talk about it much but I saw this cartoon and I got to thinking, maybe I should mention that we do still carry our delicious pulled pork. It's a whole day thing, so we don't do it often, but our butts are injected, grub rubbed, smoked low n' slow 10 to 12 hours over applewood, gently rested, meticulously pulled and then packaged immediately. Sold by the pound to you and so easy to reheat at home. Just add bun and maybe a little coleslaw and BAM you'll feel like Guy Fieri when you bite into this beast. Find me this Saturday at the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market from 9am - 3pm. Grab an easy meal, grab some jerky, spice up your life or get sauced, either way we got you covered. See you tomorrow!

Happy Valentine's Day Friday Folks!!! I've been on a little surprise holiday thanks to Old Man Winter being extra grumpy this week, so just a heads up that if you are coming this weekend to see your favourite cupid of smoked meats to buy some very thoughtful flavour missiles certain to lock on to your favourite Valentine's heart and/or stomach and you have your heart set on a certain jerky flavour, you should probably come early this week. Due to the polar vortex's rather rud...e interference in my outdoor jerky making ability, supplies of our more popular flavours is currently limited so best to jump on it. So consider coming early this Saturday to the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market as I'll be there by 8:30am. Or feel free to send me a message here or via the website and I can put some goodies to the side for you. Stay warm, stay cozy, stay safe and a Happy Valentine's Day to all my meat peeps! May a heart shaped ribeye find its way to your grill

Happy New Year's Folks!! First and foremost, I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Christmas and New Year's break, I know I did. Next, a sincere shoutout to everyone who came by last month to shop local in a BIG way. Our freezers were empty but our hearts were full. It really was incredible, so thank you. And since 2021 is year of the Bull, I feel like this is a good omen for our little BBQ business going forward We will be continuing 2021 with the reduced hours we ...implemented last month. So still just Saturdays for now, 9am to 3pm. We hope to be back on Sunday's as soon as things improve out there. Come on Alberta, we got this! So maybe we'll see you tomorrow 9am to 3pm. I'm looking forward to hearing how everyone spent their last week of 2020. It was easily the most non traditional holiday year I've ever experienced so let's hear your stories!

Big G Foods 20.12.2020

Happy Friday folks!!! Hey yo, hey yo, this is your official notice that it's last call for BBQ ya'll!! That's right folks, our last market of 2020 is this Saturday, so it's time to grab your list, fire up the sleigh and make your way down to the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market and load up that sack! Trust me when I say Christmas morning without bacon jerky in the stocking, or a Christmas dinner without BBQ is just wrong. Also, Santa's keto this yea...r so swap that cookie for some jerky and do the big man a solid! So come see Big G under several layers of joy and PPE for a safe and very local shopping experience. I promise we have perfect last minute things for the hard to buy person. If you dont want to come direct to the booth, just message me here and we can work something out to get it out to you. If I dont see you tomorrow, seasonings greetings to you all. Everyone here at Big G Foods wishes you a great (albeit weird) 2020 holiday season and we hope everyone stays safe, healthy and full of the meats. We will see you all next year

Big G Foods 11.12.2020

Happy Thursday folks!! I know, I'm a day early, what's up G? Well look, it's a bit of a tire fire out there and with the new restrictions announced, we wanted to announce a temporary change in our hours of operation to be reviewed weekly. We're trying to strike the right balance between serving our amazing customers, staying safe and helping to flatten that curve. So we've decided we will be open on Saturdays only, 830am -3pm. Rest assured this is very temporary and we will r...eturn on Sundays as soon as possible. A tiny little circuit "break" if you will Please note that the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market is still open both days and they are taking incredible measures to make sure everyone is safe, otherwise I wouldn't be there. It really is an infinitely safer place to shop than the box stores. If for whatever reason you are unable to come directly to the booth, just message me here, or send a message via the contact page on my website (www.biggfoods.ca) and we will help figure out a way to run it out to you So if you have any pre-orders, or you have your heart set on some Big G goodies for under the tree this year, it would be a very wise idea to come on down this Saturday and fill your stockings! Thanks to everyone for all the incredible support you've shown us, especially this year. We are strong, healthy and looking forward to keeping it that way well into 2021. This year, shopping local has never been more appreciated so thank you, we notice.... See you soon!

Happy Friday Folks!!! So we're feeling pretty bigtime over here. We have found ourselves in the brand spanking new Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market Christmas Gift Guide!! That's right, we're basically published chefs now. I'll sign autographs if you want but only if there's enough sharpie ink to go round Anyways, it's a book full of really unique gift and foodie ideas from a whole bunch of local small and micro businesses located under one big convenient roof. Check out the... guide, get some inspiration, and if you're still out there shopping, hopefully you'll consider hitting up the market as part of your rounds! Keeping it local is where it's at these days I'll continue to be at market for as long as it's safe to do so. But with things changing at a fast pace everyday, if you have your heart set on some Big G goodies for xmas, the sooner the better is my suggestion. I'll be there this Saturday 8:30-3 and Sunday 10:30-3 and look forward to sharing some holiday cheer with you. Here's the link! Happy Friday folks!! I'm sure you've all been waiting with fevered anticipation for this week's installment of the Big G has a business and a camera photo series, so without further ado, I am proud to present sauce #2, the oh so spellbinding Big G's Magic Mustard! Originally developed as a pulled pork topping, it has since evolved, (likely through a series of hocus pocus magical spells that us muggles are simply unable to comprehend) into a unique BBQ and finishing sauce. It'...s great on your BBQ meats like the best damn chicken wings ya ever done had, but just as good on appetizers like your 6 piece from McDonalds. Sweet, spicy, super mustardy and ultra mapley (do those last 2 count as actual adjectives?), this sauce is sure to mesmerize your dinner guests and all that food will dissapear! So come on down to the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market this weekend and see what the Saucerer has cooked up for your BBQ needs. I hear if you say magic mustard three times in the bathroom with the lights off, a deliciously sauced pulled pork sandwich might appear #shoplocal #farmersmarket #yegfood

Big G Foods 15.11.2020

Happy Friday folks!!! Big G is back with yet another exciting installment of my big time Facebook fancy pictures of my BBQ stuff promotional tour. This week's feature is our first love, Big G's Grub Rub. It has been with us since day one, the recipe has never changed and never will. This all purpose rub will guaranteed enhance all your meats. Chicken, pork, beef, fish, whatever, it's all good. If it ever had legs and walked on land, this will probably make it taste better. Ev...en good on non meat things like, for example, a killer BBQ popcorn seasoning. Yup. Worth it just for that. So anyways, stuff this rub in someone's sock this Christmas and everyone will feel good about it. Think about it. Support your friendly local BBQ guy. Get a perfect stocking stuffer for anyone not insane. Maybe that lucky someone makes something delicious with it that you get to eat, so it's like the gift that gives back. A win win win situation here folks. So we're here all weekend, enhanced AHS approved safety protocols in place for your protection, and a whole building full of local vendors to support at the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market

Big G Foods 07.11.2020

Happy Friday folks!! So this week, I present the second installment of our ongoing photo series "Big G has a photo box and sorta knows how to use it". Today we proudly showcase the OG sauce that started it all. Our very first product. The first cheesy BBQ slogan we ever came up with. The thing that I took 2 weeks off work to do nothing but lock myself down in the flavour labs like a mad scientist and fine tune the recipe. With great pride ladies and gentlemen, I present Big G...'s Liquid Gold! For those of you who may not know, this is our sweet n' savoury Kansas City style BBQ sauce. Ribs. Chicken parts. Burgers. Marinades. As our cheesy slogan has always promised, it will give your meats the Midas touch. You've found the golden goose of BBQ sauces. The . Olympic Gold level BBQ in a bottle. They should keep this stuff in Fort Knox. Ok, I should probably stop with the gold references, but you get what I'm saying. It's golden on meat. So consider coming down this weekend to the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market and scratch some things off the list. It's only 3 paydays 'til Christmas and lots of unique local gifts to check out. Oh and did I mention jerky and rubs are great stocking stuffers? See you soon

Big G Foods 27.10.2020

Happy Friday folks!! Well guess who finally got around to setting up the photo box he bought on Amazon 2 years ago? This guy, that's who! So today I share with you, loyal Big G customer, the first ever halfway decent looking product shots we've ever done. Exhibit A is a picture of our beef rub. Fact: It has changed many lives. If it hasn't changed yours yet, come to the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market this weekend and correct that. Let those custom Big G flavours take you aw...ay on a journey to a blissful state of "namasteak", ommmmmm, nom nom nom nom As you are meatitating and transcending multiple savoury flavour universes, perhaps ignore the label. That's probably not so zen I'll be at market all weekend, so if you're still out there shopping, come on down because I'm sure there's something important that happened this past week we could talk about

Big G Foods 11.10.2020

Happy Friday folks!! Whatever you're doing for Halloween this weekend, you should make sure it includes some tasty barBOOcue. I have many things that can help. Doesn't even matter witch meat you choose. Zombeef? Check. Stake? Check. Oh wait, maybe some freshly pulled pork? That's right folks, like a mystical fairy unicorn, our freshly cooked pulled pork only comes around a couple times a year and this weekend is your best shot at it. We don't talk about pork club much, so if... you know, you know. I know I'll probably see a few of you old schoolers this weekend Find me at the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market both Saturday (8:30-3) & Sunday (10:30-3). There's some safe Halloween fun going down for the kids on Saturday, and it's a great place for some Halloween weekend local stock up. Stay safe out there and see you soon!

Big G Foods 23.09.2020

Happy Friday folks!! So it was bound to happen. It's cold out. But I swear there are some silver linings to this cold weather. For example, it means Big G's is officially cooking our 2020 winter vintage jerky now. Cold weather means we use more wood. More wood means we get more smoke. More smoke means the jerky gets more flavour. It's science! And we broke out our trusty heat blanket to protect any and all degrees we can from being stolen by old man winter. So come taste the difference winter makes at the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market every Saturday and Sunday. Safe, local shopping in the #yeg

Big G Foods 03.09.2020

Happy Friday folks!!! New sauce we're working on over here at the Big G flavour labs. Details forthcoming. Currently at the obsessive tweaking stage Must. Be. Perfect. To all the chickens and shrimps who have made the ultimate sacrifice as we test this new creation, we thank you and hope to do your legacies proud.... I'll be at Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market all weekend long for some safe, fun local shopping. I took this picture just before snow came but remember, snow does not mean BBQ season is over, it's just a tiny bit trickier

Big G Foods 29.08.2020

Happy Friday Folks!! Thanksgiving 2020 is upon us, here's hoping a mutant turkey doesn't emerge from the oceans and destroy Tokyo or something. Mama G and I are planning a safe and protein heavy get together with family this weekend. If you are doing the same, put on your best meat suit and come on down to the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market and stock up on the best meats and produce in town. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the market is one of the safer places to... shop for food these days, because man, has anyone been to a Wal-Mart lately? Yeesh It's also the final weekend for our outdoor portion of the market before we move the whole show inside until next spring. Not going to lie, I definitely don't miss setting up those tents, so come show some love to our market warriors still popping up tents this weekend Here all weekend, Saturday 8:30am-3pm and Sunday 10:30am-3pm. Happy Thanksgiving!
